Opening with aromas of fresh raspberries, wild mint, and thyme, it seems delicate but crecendos quickly out of the glass with gusto. Fine tannins assert themselves just enough as tard red currants and sour-cherry flavors dark back and forth across the palate, while dried laurel and rose add a lifted, savory finish that invites another sip.
Renato Fenocchio Nebbiolo Spetacol 2022
92 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Why declassify Barbaresco? Well, Renato Fenocchio loves to tinker, sometimes stepping just outside the strict boundaries required for Barbaresco labeling. ‘Spetacol’ translates to “entertainment” in Italian, and the wine is meant for the family to make a Nebbiolo however they’d like each vintage without having to worry about rules. This is what they love to drink as a family. I’m not complaining – because this gives us a straight up steal to work with.
This is a masterclass in Nebbiolo from a family that’s been perfecting their craft for generations. Sustainable farming practices, unwavering commitment to quality, and deep respect for their terroir all shine through in every glass. It’s bright and effusive and completely dialed with pristine fruit, silky tannins and a rockstar finish. It’s Barbaresco to a T.

MORE INFO
The Fenocchios are a beloved winemaking family that’s been crafting some of Italy’s most elegant, seamless, and age-worthy Nebbiolo for over 200 years. The patriarch of the family, Renato, is the man behind this iconic estate. The family’s reputation in Barbaresco is nothing short of legendary, with consistently gorgeous wines that rack up huge scores vintage after vintage.
The winery’s Barbarescos are the calling card for this incredible estate. But recently, it’s their “Entertainment” wine – the Spetacol Langhe Nebbiolo that has my full attention. This wine, meant to be more approachable in its youth and expressive is still made in Barbaresco, but the family chooses to label it without the name, so that they can step outside the winemaking boundaries when they’d like and experiment into making the best Nebbiolo they can to drink for themselves, rules be darned!
