(3) Trousse Chemise Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2019
Oregon Superstar winemaker Anne Sery’s 2019 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir has everything going on for it that makes Oregon Pinot the closest thing to Burgundy in America. The 2019 vintage was slightly cooler than 2018, allowing for beautifully expressive, aromatic Pinot Noir to shine. This one is a product of the cool, high elevation mountain sources in the Willamette Valley including Hyland Vineyard. On the palate, vibrant and fruity but the finish is long and stony, balancing that terrific fruit perfectly. Delicious tonight and every night for the next 5 years.
(3) L’Effet Papillon Rosé Côtes Catalanes 2020
The newly arrived 2020 l’Effet Papillon Rosé is made 100% from Grenache (as many of the best Southern French Rosés are). It’s so fresh and delicious with seductive aromas of Georgia peach, lemon, cherry and orange hint of lemon zest. It’s vibrant, bright and dry, making it a great wine to enjoy with food. However, this Rosé is so good – with layers of complexity and structure – it’s more than worthy of enjoying on its own.
(3) Fabre Montmayou Malbec Reserve Mendoza 2018
The 2018 Reserve Malbec from the heart of Mendoza is just too good to hoard for myself. Dark ruby in color with seductive aromas of blackberry, raspberry, sage and wild herbs. It’s a BIG RED with a small price tag and a wine that dances in the glass. The best part might be that is equally good with or without food. If you’re looking for the next lip-smacking house red to stash up on, this one is for you.
(3) Clos Julien Price Canyon Chardonnay 2019
Clos Julien is tiny winery with a reputation of sourcing the best of California’s coastal vineyard sites for fine, elegant renditions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Their latest release of Chardonnay comes from a small site on the second ridge off the Pacific Ocean, Spanish Springs. Spanish Springs is a low-yielding, south-facing vineyard with vines rooted in very limestone and marine shale-based soils. 2019 was exactly the type of vintage CJ looks for in developing aromatic complexity and finesse in their Chardonnay. This is outstanding.

This is an extraordinary chance to lock into two of the best vintages of Jordan Cabernet ever made. This is one of California’s iconic producers of Cabernet, and both the 2009 and 2010 vintages were like a dream come true for superstar winemaker Rob Davis. Most of these bottles are long gone, but luckily I manage to snag enough to offer up a 2009, 2010 side-by-side Library vertical. These will fly out the door!
This one is an aromatic fireworks show followed by a Big Red with a mouthful of red and black currants, plum, and licorice. There’s some notes of cedar, crushed herbs, and nutmeg here too that all mesh together nicely to create a lush, full-bodied wine with plenty of layers and a lengthy memorable finish.
Drawn from the heart of Tuscany, in Villa di Rèmole, the Sangiovese-dominant wine is an homage to the subregion from which it is drawn. It’s a super juicy, fruity wine that also has some floral and spicier notes that come in to play at the end. It’s an incredibly balanced and elegant wine for the price, a wine that screams for good food, anything from soft cheese to cured meats to pasta or pizza.
