If you haven’t yet heard of Porseleinberg, you better hurry up and get with the program while we can get this thing for double digits. The boutique Swartland winery is home to dynamite, world-class Cape influenced Syrah that exemplifies the essence of terroir-driven, authentic wine. Critics are in love with the project – wine buyers worldwide make it one of the tougher bottles to get your hands on.
This revolutionary long-term project that borders on a Cult project by Marc Kent of Boekenhoutskloof started when he brought in Callie Louw as the farmer and custodian of this special vineyard. At home on his John Deere tractor, Callie is also the winemaker, producing a richly tannic and yet ethereal wine that is more akin to Cornas or Hermitage.
The 2018 Syrah has been sold out in most countries for months now. The last 36 bottles are in the states, earmarked exclusively for Nicholas Wines. Don’t miss out on something really special.
“In the right hands, great sites produce great wines. Since its inception in 2010, Porseleinberg has been one of the Cape’s most exciting reds, but nothing quite prepared me for the transcendent brilliance of this wine. Influenced by some time spent at Domaine Jamet in Côte Rôtie – particularly their use of a submerged cap during fermentation – Callie Louw has made a stunning Syrah, proving his skills as both a farmer and a winemaker. In 2018, the style has shifted, away from power and grip to something more scented and refined. Focused, nuanced and very delicately oaked, with raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, clove and white pepper spice and textured tannins. Simply world class. 2023-35” – Tim Atkin, MW (Wine of the Year, 2020)
“The 2018 is a glowing success… this may be the best vintage yet. The 2018 vintage marks the first time the Syrah received a submerged cap fermentation, which focused the expression, delivering a lifted and floral edge with a balanced structure and fine-tuned tannic structure, reminding me of Syrah from the Walla Walla Valley. It’s time to start collecting these wines if you are unfamiliar with them. Bravo! I’m finishing my glass and not spitting this tasting sample!” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“We finished with a brilliant 2018 Porseleinberg that I reviewed recently. It offers blackberry, clove and touches of garrigue on the nose, and displays density and exquisite balance on the palate and a dash of pepper on the finish. This is a wonderful South African wine that will age beautifully over the next 20 years” –Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The newly released Fiancetto Howell Mt. Cabernet is a dream – a gorgeous, elegant dark-fruited Cabernet Sauvignon that is it picks up time in the glass, unfurls its full signature of cedar laced cassis nose and mid palate of chocolate-covered cherries and savory spices. Only four palates of this (224 cases) were made off a gorgeous, sprawling high elevation spot 1500 feet above sea level. It’s full and plush and finishes fresh and oh so long. The price is crazy for Howell Mountain Cabernet but that’s what Ry Richards and Fiancetto is all about.

“The 2021 Malbec Reserva, from Vistalba, Lujan de Cuyo, was 60% aged in barrels for 12 months. Purple in color. The nose presents notes of fresh plum and violets, white pepper, strawberry, hints of spice and aromas from the aging process. It’s initially indulgent in the mouth, with good fat, and volume and a velvety texture. The flavors are bold and full-bodied. This 2021 overdelivers at the price.” -Vinous

The new release is here from outstanding winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. This one always represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in all of Napa Cab and in the stellar 2021 vintage, this really stands out as one of the best the Valley has to offer. It’s a racy mix of Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak that absolutely roars out of the bottle. Always one of Napa’s great bargains and a must have even as the price starts to sneak up here a little bit.

“This supple red shows a core of cherry and plum fruit allied to olive, juniper and tobacco notes. Delivers well-integrated tannins and acidic structure, lingering nicely on the finish.”
