Giovanni Davaz is the owner and winemaker of Poggio al Sole. This picturesque estate lies in the commune of Tavernelle Val di Pesa, in the heart of Chianti Classico. Organic farming and low yields create wines with incredible power; dark, brooding colors, intense extraction of fruit and ripe tannins. The Trittico is a blend of young vine Sangiovese and Cabernet, vinified in stainless steel tanks. It displays a bright, ruby red color and aromas of black raspberry and cherry with a touch of earth. Great fruit and good acidity make it incredibly food friendly, absolutely perfect with pizza.

This is a really exciting new release in the collection of single-vineyards from the Wagner Family, and arguably the most interesting one of the bunch. This is the only Pinot Noir in the Caymus collection that has the advantage of being from a natural Pinot Noir haven in the Russian River Valley. Dairyman Vineyard’s proximity to the pacific ocean, with its morning fog and afternoon coastal breezes allows for an even and elongated growing season, with super concentrated and expressive grape clusters that help make this Dijon clone Pinot Noir one that you need.
#3 Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2021

We are one of the very few folks who have Wine Spectator’s #3 Wine of the Year. This is definitely not one to miss. The 2016 vintage showcases this prized vineyard in all its glory; notes of wild black fruit, thyme, mint, eucalyptus, and bay are lifted and enjoyed with the polished tannin and mouthwatering freshness of this wine. Regarded as one of the best vintages in the last few decades, the 2016 Martha’s Vineyard has been aged to perfection for immediate enjoyment at release and will continue to reward for the next 20+ years.

Avignonesi’s wines took Nicholas Wines by storm last year with their ‘Grifi’ SuperTuscan, a highly rated, highly delicious bottle that put the winery firmly on my radar. It’s a great bottle of wine, but at this price – it completely overdelivers which is exactly what you’re looking for.
#24 Wine of the Year (2022), Wine Spectator

“This supple red shows a core of cherry and plum fruit allied to olive, juniper and tobacco notes. Delivers well-integrated tannins and acidic structure, lingering nicely on the finish.”
