96 Points, Decanter
Pronounced aromatic intensity with an onset of sun-aged leather, black currant and lilac flower. The palate brings depth to the uplifting aromas with savoury notes like charred meat and black pepper, while liquorice root, Earl Grey tea, and black currant provide a sweet, warming sensation on the palate. Impressive structural integrity for this aool climate Syrah at only 12.4% alcohol, the Rim Rock delivers terrific value. A melodic symphony of flavours creates a wine with depth and complexity while not overly sophisticated to enjoy with dinner at home, with the potential for ages 5-7 years.
Piedrasassi Syrah Rim Rock Vineyard Arroyo Grande 2021
96 Points, Decanter – 93+ Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate
This is a gorgeous single vineyard bottling that really shows off Rim Rock Vineyard in the SLO Coast AVA. Planted atop self-rooted vines atop shaly loam soils, this is an expressive, savory bottling that leaves you thinking for seconds after each sip, it’s truly that thought-provoking. It’s one of the higher-rated Syrahs you’re going to see for under $50/bottle, a testament to the value and sheer class that Sashi Moorman brings to his projects. In their 96-point review, Decanter called out “a wine with depth and complexity while not overly sophisticated to enjoy with dinner at home.” This is a great shot at a small-production, culty little wine project from an excellent winemaker.

MORE INFO
Piedrasassi is the cult Syrah project started by Sashi Moorman (Domaine de la Cote, Evening Land, Sandhi) and his wife Melissa. Together, the talented pair make Northern Rhone-style Syrah that they make on the side in addition to their day jobs and raising a daughter.
The central focus of Piedrasassi’s wine program is cool-climate Syrah. Sashi & Melissa believe that the best, most compelling Syrah is made at cool climate sites. They source their fruit from Ballard Canyon in the east to the Santa Rita Hills and Arroyo Grande in the west.
These wines are always made in the smallest of quantities, some made with whole cluster fermentation and always with their indigenous yeasts. It’s easy to see why they’re such critic darlings. This is some of the best cool-climate Syrah that the U.S. has to offer.
*Pro tip if you’re planning to visit* Melissa runs the family bakery which is connected to the tasting room – making fresh loaves from Wednesday to Sunday. You can’t beat a small family affair with lots of love!
