The 2019 Para Maria de los Tecolotes Rosé (affectionately named after Ruben’s wife and partner, Maria) is 100% Syrah, salmon-pink in color, with a great nose of ruby red grapefruit and red apple. Bone-dry and low in alcohol it is a classic Rosé very much like the first one Melissa and I discovered on a trip to the south of France many, many years ago. Drink with just about anything this spring and summer but if you really want to be reminded of Santa Barbara County’s finest…..just a good juicy burger.

From what I have tasted, pretty much anything involving Ruben has a massive headstart on the way to greatness.

94 Points (Best Buy), Wine & Spirits
“Deep in color and vinous in its red fruit, this is a spicy and compelling rosé. There’s pristine strawberry flavor at its core, surrounded by accents of red grapefruit, blood orange and fennel. The wine’s intensity rises like its bubbles from base note to high notes, leaving a pale red fruit ghosting in the finish.”
95 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Here’s the thing, the quality here is fantastic. I had the wine last week, and it is every bit as good as its 95-point review. In it, the Wine Advocate called the wine “delicate, yet serious” an important distinction. This is a Chardonnay blend, that’s very bright with inviting citrus flavors, with beautiful salinity and backed by an inviting creaminess. It’s also built to last. You might never find a California white wine this good at a price this low again!
The cuvee is a rather seamless blend with a melody of flavors. There’s cherries, cranberries, and raspberries with some more subtle notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. I think a lot of people are going to like it. It’s very well-balanced and in sync, with juicy, ripe notes, but nothing over the top. It’s still got silky smooth tannins and plenty of grace.
We’re nearing the end of what was a flawlessly crafted, high energy coastal Chardonnay release from one of California’s hottest spots. It’s still every bit as bright and refreshing as you could want and it hits with clean, pristine green apple fruits, pears and citrus notes with a hint of that limestone-influenced minerality. It’s a fantastic wine for all seasons, the perfect pair with mixed seafood, summer tomatoes, corn and freshly caught fish.
