Paitin Starda Langhe Nebbiolo 2024

The wines made here are truly outstanding and ageworthy every year, but in the 2024 vintage in particular, the Paitin team had to make some tough choices which inadvertently led to this wine being the best it’s ever been by far. Luca, Giovanni and Dante made the difficult decision to declassify an enormous amount of fruit in 2024. They produced just a small amount of one single Cru: Sorì Paitin, which accounted for only 20% of their normal Cru production. The rest? The majority of Albesani, Starderi, Basarin, Serraboella and Starda all went into this Langhe Nebbiolo. Normally this wine is 30% declassified Barbaresco fruit. In 2024, it’s a whopping 60%.

Wine Enthusiast gave it 93 points. Parker’s Wine Advocate came in just lower at 91, calling it “polished and silky with tightly knit aromas of wild berry, violet and crushed stone” while finishing with “freshness, precision and effortless drinkability.” That’s not your average Langhe Nebbiolo review. You’re essentially drinking a Barbaresco, and one made by one of the world’s most respected Nebbiolo producers for a price better than most regular Langhe Nebbiolos. Not too shabby!
