Chad Sonoma Mountain Reserve 2019
Chad’s new Bordeaux blend came from what is widely considered to be the best old-patch, old-vine vineyard for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the Mayacamas Mountains. It’s a vibrant purple color with killer aromatics of wild blueberry, sage and mint. This baby is full-bodied and lush on the pallet, with juicy, ripe plum and cassis flavors and just a touch of dark chocolate. The tannins are fine and long. A medium bodied, silky Red that pairs well with the summertime.
Brunori Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico ‘Le Gemme’ 2019
The 2019 Brunori ‘Le Gemme’ Verdichio is a total knock-out. About a billion times better than every-day Pinot Grigio, the Brunori is an electric, vibrant white wine which combines delicious fruit and vibrancy with boasts a killer nose of white peach, honeycomb and almonds. The fruit is wonderfully concentrated with a salty, stony finish that goes forever.
Dominique et Janine Crochet Sancerre Blanc 2020
A Nicholas Wines favorite and the perennial by-the-glass Sancerre at Gramercy Tavern and Danny Meyer’s other Union Square hot spots, this is a killer bottle of wine. Super intense aromatics with crisp stone fruits, Asian pear and that signature Bué minerality streak. Vibrant fruit and acidity with tremendous balance and depth. Like all great Sancerre, I think this one is only going to get better over the next couple of years.
Xavier Vignon Côtes du Rhône Rose 2020
Any weekly reader of this running narrative of life and wine knows that Xavier Vignon is a very special winemaker. Knocked-out wines in every price point, huge Parker scores and really sharp pricing easily makes him one of NW most requested and commented upon producer. His latest release, a dry, Provençal-styled rosé comes from 80-100 year old vines rooted in clay and gravel soils in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Lirac. It’s a killer bottle of rosé, loaded with raspberry and wild strawberry aromas and flavors, touched with subtle, savory spice. It’s fresh, vibrant wine, perfect with the cuisine of summer.

Drawn from the heart of Tuscany, in Villa di Rèmole, the Sangiovese-dominant wine is an homage to the subregion from which it is drawn. It’s a super juicy, fruity wine that also has some floral and spicier notes that come in to play at the end. It’s an incredibly balanced and elegant wine for the price, a wine that screams for good food, anything from soft cheese to cured meats to pasta or pizza.
90 Points, James Suckling
“Lots of passion fruit, guava and grapefruit on the nose. Bright, tropical and balanced, with medium body and a juicy, fruity finish. Sustainable. Drink now. Screw cap.” -James Suckling
This one is an aromatic fireworks show followed by a Big Red with a mouthful of red and black currants, plum, and licorice. There’s some notes of cedar, crushed herbs, and nutmeg here too that all mesh together nicely to create a lush, full-bodied wine with plenty of layers and a lengthy memorable finish.
This is an extraordinary chance to lock into two of the best vintages of Jordan Cabernet ever made. This is one of California’s iconic producers of Cabernet, and both the 2009 and 2010 vintages were like a dream come true for superstar winemaker Rob Davis. Most of these bottles are long gone, but luckily I manage to snag enough to offer up a 2009, 2010 side-by-side Library vertical. These will fly out the door!
