McPrice Meyers M Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2021

The winemaker with his namesake winery didn’t come from money, nor did he inherit any kind of land or property. What he did have was an insatiable thirst for food and wine, which led him to become a winemaker.

In 2002, after working a few harvests around California, this dedicated wine student started with a half-ton of grapes in a small cooperative in Paso Robles, put his head down, and got to work. Before you knew it…BOOM!

The project exploded overnight. Robert Parker, Jr. loved the wines from the jump, declaring that “California needs more of these wines in the marketplace.” In the early 2000s, that was all you needed, but Parker was hardly alone.

A few years later, his Paso Robles Cab wound up on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of the Year list. Jeb Dunnuck went crazy for them too, writing, “McPrice Myers continues to churn out outstanding, singular and age-worthy wines under his McPrice Myers label” as well as “I always love the wines from McPrice Myers.”

And even as the demand has swelled, the wine club has filled, and the press has consistently swooned, prices stay low by design. Myers wants to make his wines accessible and reward those who have enjoyed his wines since the beginning.

95 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
I love this easy-to-drink 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon from McPrice Myers that well overdelivers for its price. Deep ruby-purple, it has alluring aromas of cassis, pencil shavings, dried herbs, leather and lavender, plus classy touches of oak spice. The full-bodied palate is concentrated and powerful without going over the top. It has abundant, grainy tannins, flinty streaks and plenty of refreshing acidity to carry the long finish. It’s not your average chocolate bomb California Cabernet, despite its modest price tag.
