#32 Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2025

92 Pts, James Suckling – 92 Pts, Wine Spectator

Massican, a cult winery and Napa Valley’s sole white wine property continues to amaze. Their ‘Annia’ White blend is one of the most famous wines amongst Michellin starred sommeliers and has become harder and harder to procure. Right now, it’s by-the-glass at Marea in New York. Or, for nearly the same price as a glass in New York, you can lock into a bottle of one of the most interesting wines made in America each year. This is a dazzling white blend using mainly Italian varietals inspired by Friuli and combining it with Chardonnay. It’s floral, citrusy, minerally, bright, and totally special. It’s not to be missed. Perfect for Thanksgiving and/or Seven Fishes!

92 Points, Wine Spectator – #32 Wine of 2025
Offers a refreshing, distinctive and aromatic mix of lemon blossoms, wildflower honey, marzipan, ripe and salted melon, and apricot. Vibrant acidity keeps the flavors fresh and light on their feet, and a note of wild fennel lingers effortlessly. Ribolla Gialla, Tocai Friulano, Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco.

92 Points, James Suckling
So vivid, bright and light-bodied, offering fragrant aromas and brilliant citrus flavors at quite low alcohol. Fresh and almost steely, strong in acidity, mouthwatering and detailed. Minerals, flint, chalk, lemons and lime zest on the palate.

Dan Petroski followed his family’s heritage and moved to Italy on a whim and spent years there learning how to make wine. When he left for Napa Valley, he found himself missing the salty Italian white wines that had made him first fall in love with wine. So he decided to take a chance.

He started Massican as a side project while the winemaker at Larkmead. While Petroski was busy sculpting some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignons and Chardonnays that Napa has to offer, he yearned to champion the varietials he truly loved.

Less than years later Petroski’s “side project” made him one of California’s fastest rising winemaking’s stars. His whites are poured by the glass at the French Laundry and Chez Panisse and featured at Daniel, Eleven Madison Park, and Alinea, including the outrageously good Sauvignon Blanc that we’re offering up today. He also earned 2017’s ‘Winemaker of the Year’ honors from the SF Chronicle in addition to his wines in both Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 lists. And now? His dazzling white wines have become some of the most sought after in the entire world. Not too shabby.
