Leviathan Cabernet Blend 2018

Annie Favia (Favia Wines) and Andy Erickson (Screaming Eagle) are arguably the most formidable winemaking pair in the country.  A few years back the two had the idea to birth Leviathan– a project centered around making the biggest and best red wine each vintage. Only one wine, nothing held back.

Together using their ample connections and many of the same vineyard locations that go into Favia wines, the two source Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot for each year’s blend. Aided by the perfectly uneventful and even 2018 harvest, Andy and Annie’s 2018 Leviathan comes out of the gates absolutely roaring.

Big and brash and dark purple in hue, the wine exudes aromas of fresh picked berries, violets, sage and a kiss of cedar. It’s a voluptuous wine with chewy, supple tannins that are actually amazing round and smooth already. Though you can enjoy this big boy right now, this is the kind of BIG RED that could use a little cellar time, but once you pop that cork– you better be ready to go!

Original price was: $50.00.Current price is: $39.50.

Blackberry,  fresh boysenberry and asphalt aromas with some violets and rose petals. Medium to full body. Some carbon to the dark fruit. Tasty and delicious. Chewy now, but we like it already. Drinkable now, but will improve with age.

From the creative mind and winemaking prowess of Screaming Eagle’s own Andy Erickson, comes a passion project unlike any other. The goal at Leviathan is to make only one wine a year– the biggest red in the U.S. Sourced from some of the best vineyards up and down the coast (you can thank Andy and Screaming Eagle for that), this Bordeaux blend features ample Cabernet rounded out with Syrah and Merlot. A big, intense wine– this will only get better with age, though its great right now and under $40/btl for an Andy Erickson wine. That should be more than enough any day!
