These are not people who throw around language like that lightly. And after tasting this myself, I couldn’t agree more.
Wine Enthusiast nailed the full range of flavors in their description: everything from blackberry to woodspice, espresso to peppercorn. This is a serious wine we’re talking about, and at this price, it screams to be bought by the case or in my case, by the pallet so I can spread this extraordinary wine out as far as possible.

This would be a superb wine at three times the price, offering far more in flavor, texture and stability than most anything in its price class. Deep aromas of blackberry, peppercorn, woodspice and oregano lead from the nose into a rich palate that’s lush but bone dry. Flavors of blue and red fruit are dusted in espresso and baking spice, finishing on a chocolate note.
This is Le Roi Rouge Cabernet Sauvignon from Pays d’Oc in southern France. The team here are changing the rules on what’s possible, shifting away from the mass-produced machine farming that normally comes from the region into a true labor of love with real thought and planning in every step. Meticulous plot selection, two weeks of maceration for depth and structure, 12 months in oak (unheard of in this price range), which adds subtle vanilla and toast without masking the pure Cabernet character underneath.
