Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon Martha’s Vineyard 2016

$260.00

Family owned since its founding in 1961, Heitz Cellar’s legacy runs as deep as the roots throughout the Napa Valley; a winery legend that has helped shape the history of Napa Valley winemaking. In the late 1950’s, pioneering vintner Joe Heitz ushered in Napa’s modern era with his iconic, globally celebrated wines, including Napa Valley’s first vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon, the renowned Heitz Cellar Martha’s Vineyard.

Skipping ahead a few vintages to the fantastic 2016 vintage in Napa, and wouldn’t you know it but Joe Heitz’s flagship bottling earned enormous scores from both Parker’s Wine Advocate and the Wine Spectator. In fact, the Wine Spectator named the 2016 Heitz Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet their #3 Wine of the Year in their annual Top 100 – a pretty spectacular feat! That just speaks to the truly special place that is Oakville’s Martha’s Vineyard – and the unbeatable quality that has been pouring out of the vineyard into Heitz Cellars for decades.

96 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha’s Vineyard barely hints at eucalyptus on the nose, with much more emphasis given to black cherries and cassis. This is full-bodied and rich, nicely balancing richness and texture against linear shape and focus and picking up hints of blueberries and spice on the long, mouthwatering finish

95 Points, Wine Spectator
This throws off an overt and alluring mint aroma, while sweet bay leaf, violet, damson plum, red tea and steeped griotte notes all glide through together, carried by remarkably fine-grained tannins. Ends with a gentle echo of mint on the finish, while a subtle minerality chimes through as well. A stylish and suave wine, with plenty of charm now, but also pristine balance for cellaring. Best from 2022 through 2038.
