HWhen New Jersey natives Anthony & Michelle Faustini caught the wine bug in the early 2000s, they got it as bad as I’ve ever seen. That’s been a great thing for all of us back home.
The two didn’t just start by buying a random ton or two of grapes while they got their feet wet in the whole business. They dove in head first, starting with grapes from the historic Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard for their first test batch. Next, they brought in Opus One & Clos du Val alum Kian Tavakoli to head up the winemaking.
Over the next 15 years, they’ve built quite a cult following producing wines off some of the most famed locations in the valley: Sauvignon Blanc from Galleron Road Vineyard in Rutherford, Cabernet at just two tons per acre from Howell Mountain, and Haynes Vineyard in Coombsville for Cabernet and Chardonnay.
That’s all well and good, but the Haynes Vineyard Chardonnay has always been slightly out of our reach, so we usually have the Faustini’s Money Road Chardonnay. And while it’s a rock-solid bottle of Napa Chard, it doesn’t quite have the pedigree (or the score) that this baby does today.

93 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
A beautiful nose of caramelized orchard fruits, lemon curd, charcoal, and honeyed flowers. Medium – bodied on the palate with terrific overall balance and nicely integrated acidity, this is a terrific Chardonnay with loads of class.

It’s hard to beat a great value white wine and this one is a at least a cut above the rest. One prominant industry insider called the 2022 edition, “the best white wine by any within $20/cs of this price.” It’s super crisp with a great mineral streak, and was carefully picked by hand when the temperature is coolest and is kept cool all the way into the press. From there, the effect of the mineral soil takes over, providing great finesse and freshness in every bottle. This white blend has great backbone and a lot of juicy fruit coming through behind aromas of flowers and stone fruits. At this price, it’s a no brainer.
The 2016 vintage in Napa was nearly perfect for winemaker Kian Tavakoli (Opus One, Clos du Val). With ideal weather all throughout harvest, he crafted the Faustini Money Road Chardonnay off the famous vineyard located in the coveted Oakville AVA. The picturesque vineyard off Oakville Crossroad is platinum rated, known for its ideal combination of soil & climate and the big A list names that routinely source fruit. Kian’s Money Road Chard is still youthful despite having a few years of age, probably as a result of its 18 months of slumber in 1/4 new Oak.
93 Points, Decanter
Of course, the Trefethens’ Chardonnay history is well documented. It dates back to the Judgement of Paris and the 1979 Wine World Olympics hosted by the French publication Gault & Millau, where their Chardonnay finished first overall. That pursuit of excellence is still just as strong as ever, as evidenced by the family’s most recent Chardonnay bottling. It’s a 93-point beauty that absolutely dazzles, especially at its incredibly modest price tag.
Elena Walch’s newly released 2022 Pinot Bianco continues to be the best example of Pinot Blanc anywhere. She’s the undisputed queen. There’s so much energy in this new release. Super light in color, with a busy nose that boasts ripe aromas of citrus, granny smith apple with a hint of freshly mowed grass. Made entirely in stainless steel, the wine is expressive, fresh and finishes as clean and tight as can be. Definitely will continue the run of 90+ scores once this one is reviewed.
