The Perrin family has been a staple in the Southern Rhone Valley for generations, tracing back to their purchase of Beaucastel in 1909. And while the CDP sets the standard in the region, and homage is often the single best bottle produced in many years, the price tags are now firmly set in the triple digits.
But tucked away in a pile of Saturday nighters – might be one of the most ridiculous values we’ll offer this entire year from the Rhone Valley. ‘Les Cornuds’ from the commune of Vinsobres is always solid but 2017 was something special.
2017 saw virtually no rain the entire year; it was a wine drinker’s dream and a banker’s nightmare. The driest weather in thirty years produced a vintage with crazy low yields, but one where non-interventionist winemaking saw old-vines bear intense, rich fruit with incredible tension and length.
A traditional mix of 50% Syrah, 50% Grenache becomes slightly less traditional in “Les Cornuds (the horns) style, which has the Syrah see Oak to round it out and give it depth and the Grenache only fermented in Stainless Steal to preserve the freshest and juiciest expression of Grenache.

A bright and fresh style, with a mix of raspberry, cherry and red currant coulis flavors, underscored by light bramble and mineral accents. Shows good juicy energy through the finish, revealing latent depth. Grenache and Syrah. Best from 2020 through 2025.

Not Eligible for Futher Discount-From famed winemaker, Robert Foley comes an absolute delight of a bottle of wine. A seamless Bordeaux blend of 80% Cabernet, 17% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot that is incredibly smoothly now but should have another decade easy of prime drinking. It is the definition of a Saturday Night bottle of wine. One to cherish for a special occasion.

“The 2021 Malbec Reserva, from Vistalba, Lujan de Cuyo, was 60% aged in barrels for 12 months. Purple in color. The nose presents notes of fresh plum and violets, white pepper, strawberry, hints of spice and aromas from the aging process. It’s initially indulgent in the mouth, with good fat, and volume and a velvety texture. The flavors are bold and full-bodied. This 2021 overdelivers at the price.” -Vinous

“The 2020 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is truly sensational. It begins with striking aromas of fresh blackberries, blueberries and dark plums that are laced with fresh spring florals, mocha, sweet exotic spices, graphite and gravel nuances all taking shape. The palate is full-bodied and displays a remarkable combination of power and elegance throughout. This is beautifully structured and extremely expressive, as it possesses outstanding depth and concentration all they way through the long, finessed finish. Year after year, the Columbia Valley Cabernet is one of the most impressive wines, and there is no exception here, as it combines all the wonderful qualities of the 2020 vintage from Quilceda Creek into one expression. This is fantastic already and readers will be in for a real treat, as this simply marvelous wine will continue to deliver the goods for years to come.”
90-92 Pts, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 91 Pts (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast – 91 Pts, Decanter
The wines get consistent high praise but 2018 is truly something special. 90-92 from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. 91 points and an Editor’s Choice designation from Wine Enthusiast. 91 more from Decanter who provides “There is so much to enjoy in the smaller appellations this year. Drinking Window 2022 – 2031” and another 90 point score from James Suckling. This is a home run value – especially for the price.
