Evening Land La Source Pinot Noir Seven Springs Vineyard 2022

#1 Rated 2022 U.S. Pinot Noir (Wine Spectator)

97 Points, Decanter – 96 Points, Wine Spectator

Oh man, did I get us a special wine for our text list.  I don’t have a lot of bottles, but what I do have is a wine that comes with serious pedigree and at the best price anywhere by far. This is a super highly-rated from the genius of Rajatt Parr and from a micro-plot on one of the greatest vineyards that we have in this country in Seven Springs. The last time this wine had a 97-point score next to its name, it finished the year as Wine Spectator’s #3 Wine of the Year. After trying this one this past weekend, and talking with a few people, I’ve heard rumblings about a return to the Wine Spectator Top 100 in a big, big way. I can’t say anything yet, but what I can tell you is that this is arguably the very best Pinot Noir to come out of Oregon in the 2022 vintage. I have 96 bottles. Do not mess around if you want to snag a bottle of something extraordinary from the Willamette Valley!

Original price was: $90.00.Current price is: $69.00.

97 Points, Decanter
“Coming from the top of Seven Springs Vineyard, here the winds from the Van Duzer Gap are intense. Earth and forest floor aromatics at the outset, dried morels, pine tar, and fresh garden soil brightened by a hint of smoky blood orange peel. The palate keeps the brooding intensity going, with flavours of ripe black plum, black tea, dried anise and black bramble fruits. There’s a silken character to the mouthfeel, gorgeous tannins, floral notes and brightly balanced dark fruits all make for a heady experience and this bottling from the Seven Springs Estate is one of the vintage’s best.”

96 Points, Wine Spectator
La Source hones in on the top of Seven Springs Vineyard, where western sun and wind are at their most intense. The earth feels close – sandalwood, bay leaf and leather lead a forested nose into star anise and well-integrated oak, with red fruit and Navel peel lurking underneath. Weightless but dense, soft but linear, this wine slaloms through level after level as airy tannins melt into the finish.

95 Points, International Wine Report
“The 2022 Evening Land La Source Pinot Noir is a stunning wine that gives a light, moving to dark neon ruby core with a lighter pink rim. Coming from the Seven Spring Estate vineyard, it offers up those wonderful flavors of ripe red fruit (strawberries and raspberries) with white pepper, lavender, white tea, and earthy notes playing second fiddle. A silky smooth structure with tannins that are rounded and sweet playing alongside lemony acidity and a fresh red-fruit-driven finish.”

Evening Land Vineyards is widely considered one of Oregon’s best and is located in the coveted Eola-Amity Hills of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Founded in 2005, the winery has quickly established itself as one of the premier producers of both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the entire U.S. The estate is centered around the iconic Seven Springs Vineyard, which was first planted in 1984 and is recognized as one of the oldest and most respected sites in the valley.

The winery gained significant attention when Burgundian legend Dominique Lafon joined as a consultant in 2007, bringing his expertise from Domaine des Comtes Lafon to Oregon. Under his guidance, Evening Land’s wines began to showcase a distinctive combination of Oregon terroir and Burgundian winemaking techniques. This partnership helped elevate the winery’s reputation on the global stage.

Evening Land has received numerous accolades over the years. In 2012, their 2010 La Source Pinot Noir was named Wine Spectator’s #3 Wine of the Year, scoring an impressive 97 points. This marked a significant milestone for Oregon wines on the international stage. The winery has consistently received high scores from major wine critics, with many of their wines scoring in the 90+ range from publications like Wine Advocate, Vinous, and Wine Enthusiast.

In 2014, renowned sommelier Rajat Parr and winemaker Sashi Moorman took over the management of Evening Land, further enhancing the winery’s prestige. Parr, a James Beard Award-winning author and respected wine expert, and Moorman, known for his work with Stolpman Vineyards and Domaine de la Côte, brought a fresh perspective to the estate while maintaining its commitment to expressing the unique terroir of Seven Springs Vineyard.
Under their stewardship, Evening Land has continued to garner praise. Wine & Spirits named Evening Land one of their Top 100 Wineries of the Year multiple times. The winery’s commitment to sustainable and organic farming practices has also been recognized, with Seven Springs Vineyard receiving organic certification in 2007 and biodynamic certification in 2008.
