A few months back I was sent 12 barrel samples from my friends at El Tesoro in Jalisco. I loved almost every one of them but as is the norm for me there was one that stood out amongst the rest. Of course, I should have known it was aged in bourbon barrel. This barrel was 11 months old so we labeled it as a Reposado.
El Tesoro is one of the oldest family run Tequila distilleries still around. I’m sure that why they still use the much more expensive Tahona method to crush the Pina’s. Most of the big houses are using a mechanical press now instead of the “Tahona” stone (A huge volcanic stone that is turned by mules). Usually this method is only reserved for the most expensive tequilas. To find one under $60 is pretty rare.
My second of two barrels, this one seems a little more lively. A bevy of citrus aromas pour out of this one with Maui Gold pineapple notes followed by a smooth mix of oak and vanilla. This is absolutely delicious to just sit with and sip but with an under $50/btl price tag, you might not be able to resist the temptation of pouring yourself a premium margarita.

95 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 94 Points,Wine Spectator
Robert Parker, Jr. gave it 95 points and called it “one of the finest Warre’s I’ve ever tasted” and “a profound example of Warre vintage port.” Additionally, “Tasters should take note of the wealth of peppery, licorice-scented and flavored raspberry and blackcurrant fruit. Look for it to be ready to drink in 10-12 years, and keep for 30+.”
True whiskey and Knob Creek enthusiasts are going to go nuts for this one. Knob Creek Rye is as outstanding as it is rare but today we’re lucky enough to bring to you, my own single barrel of it. This is a big gold expression of Rye that holds nothing back. On the nose, there are hints of dill, rye and essence of charred oak. On the palate, you are hit over the head with baking spice, honey and freshly baked bread. The finish is certainly a warm “Kentucky Hug” that goes on forever.

“The 2021 Malbec Reserva, from Vistalba, Lujan de Cuyo, was 60% aged in barrels for 12 months. Purple in color. The nose presents notes of fresh plum and violets, white pepper, strawberry, hints of spice and aromas from the aging process. It’s initially indulgent in the mouth, with good fat, and volume and a velvety texture. The flavors are bold and full-bodied. This 2021 overdelivers at the price.” -Vinous
Bulleit isn’t usually one to come out with too many new or limited releases, but the ‘Frontier’ Limited Release bucks that trend. This American Single Malt was made with 100% malted barley, aged in new American spiced oak casks, and bottled at 43% alcohol. It hits with notes of freshly baked pumpernickel bread, candied orange, dried fruits, and maple syrup. She’s a beauty – just wish I had more to sell!
