Owners, Bill and Dawnine Dyer bring the rich history and intense flavors of Diamond Mountain Cabernet to life. The boutique Napa Valley winery in the Diamond Mountain District combines their expertise and experience in one wine- Dyer Vineyard, Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon– a celebration of California’s storied wine-making history. Bill and Dawnine’s unique perspective and knowledge of wine derives from decades of winemaking, both in the prestigious Napa Valley and around the world.
Together they represent more than 80 years of experience in the wine industry. In 1996, they planted Dyer Vineyard and started Dyer Straits Wine Co with the goal of bringing focus on the exceptional terroir and extraordinary wines of Napa Valley’s “jewel” on Diamond Mountain.
After tasting their most recent vintages Galloni couldn’t hold back, releasing this important statement, “Dawnine Dyer makes some of the most compelling wines in all of Napa Valley at her tiny Diamond Mountain estate. For some reason, Dyer remains very much under the radar. Readers with classically leaning palates will want to check out these wines.”
He and the Parker’s Wine Advocate waxed poetically about the 2019 Diamond Mt. Cabernet with longtime expert Lisa Perotti-Brown calling it, “concentrated and lively, featuring loads of earthy nuances intertwined with the rich black fruit preserves flavors and a velvety texture, finishing long and spicy” and Galloni writing, “The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is sublime. The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain is deep garnet-purple in color. It erupts from the glass with intense Black Forest cake, plum preserves and crème de cassis scents, followed by hints of Indian spices, underbrush and unsmoked cigars. The full-bodied palate is concentrated and lively, featuring loads of earthy nuances intertwined with the rich black fruit preserves flavors and a velvety texture, finishing long and spicy.

The expert reviews on this incredible new release from Herve Fabre are insane. 90 points and a ‘Best Buy’ designate from Wine Enthusiast, 90 more from Suckling. Ditto from Vinous who called this “young, firm, with well-worked tannins and good structure”. But in a crowded see of nearly 20,000 wines at the Decanter Wine Awards in 2022 – this stole the show. We are one of the very few folks who have Wine Spectator’s #3 Wine of the Year. This is definitely not one to miss. The 2016 vintage showcases this prized vineyard in all its glory; notes of wild black fruit, thyme, mint, eucalyptus, and bay are lifted and enjoyed with the polished tannin and mouthwatering freshness of this wine. Regarded as one of the best vintages in the last few decades, the 2016 Martha’s Vineyard has been aged to perfection for immediate enjoyment at release and will continue to reward for the next 20+ years.

Since the late 1990’s Penner-Ash has been viewed as one of Oregon’s top wineries making gorgeous wines in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. In the 2021 vintage considered to be one of Oregon’s all-time great years, the 2021 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir that Lynn crafted is gorgeous, a silky tightly woven number that mixes red and black fruits with some sage and baking spices and a savory finish. It’s got some nice weight to it and structure which suggests it’ll age well for the next 10-15 years though it’s already drinking beautifully in its youth.

“Vignon’s 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape delivers even more than I hoped for based on a previous sample. Hints of garrigue, roses, cherries and raspberries appear on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied, silky and long, with an intense, almost briny finish. The assemblage is 50% Grenache, 10% each Mourvèdre and Syrah, plus smaller proportions of seven other permitted varieties, while the élevage includes foudres, demi-muids, concrete and wooden tanks, plus terracotta amphorae.”
