Steve Dutton farms over eighty unique, separate vineyards located in the coolest areas of
the Russian River Valley, primarily in the Green Valley appellation at Dutton Ranch. Together with winemaker Dan Goldfield, the two have been an unrivaled force in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley, creating a reputation of the region’s best known winery along with the sparkling house, Iron Horse. Five of Dutton Ranch’s eighty vineyards each year are used to make the duo’s Russian River Valley Chardonnay– a wine that has helped propel them to great heights over the years.
Dutton-Goldfield’s Dutton Ranch Chardonnay emphasizes the bright crystalline
citrus flavors and tropical overtones that reflect the pair’s vision of classic Russian River Valley Chardonnay. Most vineyards are below the fog line and the average vine age is 35 years. That helps make rich, deep and complex Chardonnays in the cool climate style.
The 2016 Dutton Ranch is a winner. A lively, energetic old-world style Chardonnay with fresh citrus and stone fruits, a touch of salinity and piercing minerality. Flavors of green apple, mango, apricot and lemon are accented by toasted hazelnuts and toffee. This one is a perfect compliment to most dishes or served chilled in a glass by the pool!

From a deft practitioner of the variety, this delivers bold balanced flavors of Meyer lemon, apricot and pear but remains most memorable for its salty gritty undertone of texture and minerality. Bright and supple, it’s a delicious wine.

“The 2018 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard marks the beginning of winemaker Joe Nielsen’s tenure at the winery. Pouring a medium yellow with a light golden hue, it’s most reserved of the flight aromatically at the moment, with yellow chamomile flowers, ripe peach, beeswax, and white flowers. Full-bodied, it retains excellent tension and focus on the palate, with apricot, orange zest, and a savory finish with a bit of spice. I suspect this will come around and open with time. Drink 2024-2030.” -Jeb Dunnuck

If you’ve never heard of Bisci, let’s start here. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate called Giuseppe Bisci’s Verdicchio “one of the finest I’ve ever tasted,” and noted that “Verdicchio is one of the joys of Italian oenology that rarely gets the respect it deserves, and few producers do it better than Bisci.” A staple at $85/bottle for both French Laundry and Eleven Madison Park. “Verdicchio is one of the joys of Italian oenology that rarely gets the respect it deserves, and few producers do it better than Bisci.” – The Wine Advocate
Sonoma Coast is well-known as a cool-climate region, perfect for growing Chardonnay. That’s why it’s such a big deal for Route Stock to transition over for the first time from Carnernos over to here. The newly released 2022 beams freshness and comes packed with a delightful energy in its youth. It has a pale straw color with lime hues. The aromas are of honeysuckle, orange blossom and creme brulee with layers of vanilla and a hint of toffee. The palate is lively yet soft with flavors of lemon cream pie and merange.
Every year, Pierre Sparr’s Alsacian Riesling is one of the top scoring wines in the under $20 category. There’s a consistency there and consumers know they can count on a Riesling that is aromatic, fruity, elegant, clean and vibrant. Pierre Sparr wines are extremely food-friendly especially in the widely praised 2021 vintage where quality rose to an all-time high. It’s a bone-dry beauty with layers of citrus fruits, framed by wet stone and mineral character that adds dimension.
