Summer dining of all types will get a better with a bottle of Talmard Macon Uchizy on the table. Al fresco dining has rarely met a better match than the wonderfully fruity, versatile white Burgundy from Domaine Talmard. The 2019 was just delivered direct from the domaine to the restaurant. (at 56 degrees, thank god, it’s been Hades-hot in France!)
As always, Talmard Macon Uchizy is a knock out value. The rolling, limestone-laden hills of southern Burgundy are perfect for fresh, mineral Chardonnay and very few producers handle the variety with more care than Mallory and Benjamin Talmard.
It is pure Chardonnay, juicy, vibrant and so food-friendly. Roast some salmon, make sweet corn risotto, use it as an aperitif, it’s a great choice for a summer-house white wine.

For years now, I’ve been absolutely delighted by the White Burgundies at Domaine Corsin. There’s really good reason for that. The Corsin’s holdings in Pouilly-Fuissé include many of the best situated sites in the appellation. This wine comes from a selection of older vines grown in these limestone soils. The current vintage is simply showing fantastic at the moment. The 2020 Corsin Domain’s Pouilly-Fuissé ‘Vieilles Vignes’ displays a bright golden hue with a hint of green. Its subtle bouquet with a woody-vanilla note enhances the slightly sharp, sophisticated fullness on the palate mingled with a generous underlying impression of toasted bread.
One of the best places to look for great Tuesday nighters are the sandy, limestone-laden hills of Asti. And within Asti, there is no white wine calling card that holds a candle to Moscato. Here it is king. Gianni Doglia naturally farms a tiny estate in the picturesque hamlet of Castagnole Lanze. His Moscato is the product of old vines, vinfied without oak to preserve its incredible fruit. This is serious, high-quality and hand-harvested Moscat, that oozes with sweet tropical fruits and a hint of minerality that stays on your tongue with each sip. This is also the perfect wine for anyone searching for a low alcohol option as well.
It’s hard to beat a great value white wine and this one is a at least a cut above the rest. One prominant industry insider called the 2022 edition, “the best white wine by any within $20/cs of this price.” It’s super crisp with a great mineral streak, and was carefully picked by hand when the temperature is coolest and is kept cool all the way into the press. From there, the effect of the mineral soil takes over, providing great finesse and freshness in every bottle. This white blend has great backbone and a lot of juicy fruit coming through behind aromas of flowers and stone fruits. At this price, it’s a no brainer.
93 Points, Decanter
Of course, the Trefethens’ Chardonnay history is well documented. It dates back to the Judgement of Paris and the 1979 Wine World Olympics hosted by the French publication Gault & Millau, where their Chardonnay finished first overall. That pursuit of excellence is still just as strong as ever, as evidenced by the family’s most recent Chardonnay bottling. It’s a 93-point beauty that absolutely dazzles, especially at its incredibly modest price tag.
