For as many years as I’ve had a restaurant, I’ve been ordering wines from Domaine Leflaive for my wine list. They’re a true iconic Burgundian producer who many will tell you simply makes the best white wines in the world. You can find them in more than half the Michelin starred list throughout the world.
But recently, Leflaive has increased their holdings, especially in the budding Mâcon-Verzé, and they did it by purchasing another of Burgundy’s treasured sites, Domaine de la Jobeline. Jobeline has been making gorgeous white burgundies for years.
The 2019 Domaine de la Jobeline Allure Mâcon-Verzé is actually a follow-up to the 2018 vintage which Decanter gave a whopping 96-point score to at their annual Awards competition. For one of greatest Burgundy vintages of all time though, they didn’t even bother submit the sample for a score. It doesn’t matter. The allocation has completely vanished as soon as it was released. Luckily, we’ve been locked into this deal for months.

Year in, year out Château Turcaud produces one of the best white wine values in the world. It’s long been found on Michelin-starred wine lists in Paris and we’ve had it at the restaurant since Day 1. If you’ve ever tried this stunning, classic Bordeaux of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle, then you know why. The new 2022 vintage has arrived and it’s beaming with energy and pure stone fruits. This is a beauty as always.
From just west of Sancerre, Vincent’s vines are tended organically in flint-laden, calcareous soil which lends a great brightness to the wine. The wine is crisp and aromatic Sauvignon, and is a superb choice for a “cocktail” wine, as an aperitif or to accompany just about anything from sea.
We’re nearing the end of what was a flawlessly crafted, high energy coastal Chardonnay release from one of California’s hottest spots. It’s still every bit as bright and refreshing as you could want and it hits with clean, pristine green apple fruits, pears and citrus notes with a hint of that limestone-influenced minerality. It’s a fantastic wine for all seasons, the perfect pair with mixed seafood, summer tomatoes, corn and freshly caught fish.
The Zenato family has built up quite the reputation for delivering exceptional value with their red and whites in Veneto. Their Pinot Grigio is a particularly great value, punching way above its weight class. Delicately scented and soft on the palate, it offers classic citrus and floral notes in a balanced elegant style. It’s smooth and refreshing with a long, pleasant finish. Great with food.
