Founded in 1975 by Carole & Tom Dehlinger, Dehlinger winery is still family owned and operated by their two daughters – Eva Dehlinger & Carmen. The estate is primarily composed of 20+ year old vines that are dry-farmed with a focus on sustainability, producing roughly 3,000cs of Estate Chardonnay & Pinot Noir annually and has been a consistent top player in the Russian River Valley for about two decades now.
Always a critic darling, this is what Antonio Galloni and Vinous had to say about the latest set of releases, “Eva Dehlinger presented a gorgeous set of 2019s.” They’re not even the ones who went gangbusters– Wine Enthusiast went to town on Eva’s latest releases, making them all but impossible to get a hold of…unless you know someone ;).

96 Points, Wine Enthusiast
“Impressive in salty pineapple and an underlying richness of crème brûlée, this wine remains balanced within its luxurious layers, with persistent freshness throughout. Unfiltered, it offers structure, graceful elegance and length, while being cohesive on the finish.”
Simply stunning. An incredible effort in arguably the greatest Sancerre vintage since 1947, Dominique’s single vineyard ‘Les Deserts’ is considered the Grand Cru vineyard of Bue. It’s a dead ringer for Premier Cru Chablis; it’s that complex. How when it’s Sauvignon Blanc? Well, the vines of Les Deserts are rooted in Kimmeridgian rock, the same soil you find in the best vineyards of Chablis. It’s full-bodied with a chalky minerality and a beautiful, vibrant intensity. This will forever change the way you view Sancerre. It really is that good.
Almondo Roero Arneis Bricco delle Ciliegie Le Rive (Gold Label) is made from the estate’s oldest single plot of vines within the already heralded Bricco Delle Ciliegie (hill of cherries). This is only the fourth vintage of this label but it’s already considered by many to be one of the best white wines in all of Italy. Juicy peaches, pears, and a hint of almonds on the nose. The mouth is dense and fleshy, full of bright fruit, minerality and salinity notes with a touch of spice that’s the highlight of a finish that lingers and lingers in the best way. It’s an absolute treat that I really wish I could snag more than once a year.
90 Points, Vinous – 90 Points, Wine & Spirits
The Hahn SLH Chardonnay 2019 is gorgeous double 90-point wine that benefits from ocean breezes from Monterey Bay, and a fog that burns off extreme later in the day. This single-vineyard expression allows for the grapes to reach maximize ripeness with great natural acidity and balance, making for an vibrant, high-toned Chardonnay that totally sings with or without food.
Even extremely well-trained palates have difficulty differentiating Pabiot’s Sauvignon from premier cru Sancerre. But I’ll let you in on the secret. Pabiot’s soils for the Coteau des Girarmes feature some of the same clay & limestone mix as across the river contributing that familiar minerality combined with fresh citrus fruits – lemon, lime but the slight variation adds a touch of white flower to the nose. That tiny bit adds just a little something more complex and interesting then you’ll find in most Sancerre.
