If there’s one problem with the Davis Bynum wines it’s the way they get filed in New Jersey. It’s convoluted but stay with me while I peel the curtain back… Wine wholesalers are allowed to file with the state to have a one day sale on a single product. Completely insane but it is what it is.
So once again for one day only (24 HOURS) – we get special access from the winery to sell one of their wines at a glorious price. Today’s deal is flat out ridiculous. I mean really truly. Today, we’ve been given a single-vineyard Russian River Valley Chardonnay made by one of the best American Chardonnay producers ever, David Ramey. That would be great on its own, but I’m not done.
This is his River West Vineyard Chardonnay. Ready for the roll call? It has 91-points and a Wine & Spirits ‘Best Buy’, a James Suckling 92-point score and he called it, “delicate, structured and long.” And last but not least, a rave 93-point review from Wine Enthusiast who deemed the wine, “rich in style yet underpinned by elegance”.

93 Points, Wine Enthusiast
This is a tangy, well-integrated and balanced wine, rich in style yet underpinned by elegance. Green apple, Meyer lemon and wet stone accent a weighty structure, with toasted oak, nutmeg and a slight hint of crème brûlée lingering on the close
92 Points, James Suckling
Aromas of lemon peel, fresh herbs and white peaches. Medium-bodied with good weight and texture. Delicate, but structured and long. Very bright acidity. Drink or hold.
91 Points (Best Buy), Wine & Spirits
Tense and gingery, this wine’s pear-like fruit has a rainwater clarity. It’s as smooth as river stones and as brisk as the water coursing over them. A youthful 2018 that’s perfect for grilled trout.

92 Points (Best Buy), Wine Enthusiast – 90 Points, James Suckling
The winery could never expected their Tuscan Vermentino would become as integral as it has – even 25 years later, it’s still a key piece of the puzzle for Campo Maccione. It’s an unassuming wine with great viscosity and bright, savory flavors that way overdelivers for the price. James Suckling agreed, as did Wine Enthusiast. Suckling gave it a 90 and deemed it “an interesting take on Tuscan Vermentino.” Wine Enthusiast took it up a few notches, attaching a coveted ‘Best Buy’ designate to the wine along with a 92-point review for the wine “with a sophisticated restraint.”
Year in, year out Château Turcaud produces one of the best white wine values in the world. It’s long been found on Michelin-starred wine lists in Paris and we’ve had it at the restaurant since Day 1. If you’ve ever tried this stunning, classic Bordeaux of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle, then you know why. The new 2022 vintage has arrived and it’s beaming with energy and pure stone fruits. This is a beauty as always.
The Picq Chablis is absolutely killer and so good for the money. Vinification takes place in a stainless steel vat so it comes out with tons of pent up energy that slowly unwinds with time in the glass. Green apple, pear and lemon lime notes highlight this one, but the chalky minerality steals the show for me. What a beauty.
Just in time, we got back Vincent Ricard’s all-time great white wine bargain. This is a crisp, clean and flat out delicious Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The protege to the Silex-style of Dagueneau – who over the last 15 years has produced flawless and beloved white wines that at last count were on the wine lists of over 36 Michelin-starred restaurants. This is a great house white and one that can surely hold its own with just about everything on the table.
