Collazzi I Bastioni Chianti Classico 2023

This is a new winery and new wine for us, but don’t let that fool you – the pedigree here is at the very top. Collazzi is a Marchi-owned property run by Bona Marchi Frescobaldi, connecting it directly to one of Tuscany’s most celebrated winemaking families. What makes this Chianti Classico so unique is Collazzi’s SuperTuscan approach applied to traditional appellations as well as the tiny little slice of heaven from which this wine was made.

The secret sauce here is the addition Malvasia Nera and Merlot (up to 20% beldning is allowed) into the heavily Sangiovese-dominant wine – adding depth, roundness, and aromatic complexity that sets this apart from the typical Chianti Classico. This beauty also comes from San Casciano Val di Pesa, a superb subregion just south of Florence, which typically hoards all the wines made there and rarely exports.
