Perfectly situated in the northwest corner of St. Émilion, near the border shared with Pomerol is the gorgeous Chateau Chauvin. The Grand cru classe estate spanning 37 acres is sandwiched between neighbors Chateau Cheval Blanc and La Dominique with the entire vineyard planted on a single block.
The Chateau is owned by one of the most famous and powerful women in Bordeaux, Sylvie Cazes, who became the first woman to hold the position as president of the Union de Grand Crus de Bordeaux in 2012. On top of that and owning and managing Chateau Chauvin with her brother, Jean Michel (founder/owner Lynch Bages), she also owns the 3-star Michelin restaurant, Le Chapon Fin.
This wine is the flagship wine, the first from Chateau Chauvin and the big brother to the 2015 Folie de Chauvin that we saw a few weeks ago. The 2016 Chauvin has offers up dark fruited and sage medley aromas with excellent precision and structure and a finish that lasts longs and reminds you of the gripps tannins. This one is showing really nicely now, but also has the ability to last 15 years easily.

94 Points, Decanter
Easily one of the most impressive of the lineup, just bursting with fruit and power – tight firm tannins giving clear support and backbone. This is a fairly Left Bank feel for a St Emilion, perhaps from its dash of Cabernet Sauvignon, and it successfully delivers a recognisable Chauvin signature. A beautiful vibrant violet rim suggests this is going to age well.
94 Points, James Suckling
Blackberry, blueberry and floral aromas follow through to a full body, tight and chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink in 2023. A château to watch in the future.

90 Points, The Wine Independent
“The 2018 Ronan by Client is medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it has fragrant notes of black and red cherries and blackberry preserves with cinnamon toast and fallen leaves. Medium-bodied, it is lively and fresh with a grainy texture and savory finish. This is a good value wine.” -Lisa Perotti-Brown
The 50 hectare estate of Maurice Robert is the jewel of this beautiful growing region, located east of Bordeaux. Robert is first and foremost a viticulturist, tending his vines like gardens. The Bordeaux Rouge 2016, a barrel-fermented, vibrant blend Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with juicy cassis fruit and just the right touch of savory spice. It is a perfect choice for roasted poultry, grilled burgers or steaks or any Alpine cheese.

“The 2005 Château Mouton Rothschild is another perfect wine from this incredible estate. Based on 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, from a cooler yet incredibly dry vintage, it’s not far off the style of the 2009 and has a layered, ripe, sexy style that’s just a joy to drink today. Full-bodied and concentrated, it offers loads of red and black fruits, minty herbs, tobacco, spice, and hints of chocolate. It’s one of those intense, powerful wines that somehow manages to stay flawlessly balanced, elegant, and graceful. It will have 50-60 years of overall longevity, but it’s certainly drinking brilliantly today as well. (Tasted April 2023)”
