If you’re ever walking the vineyards chez D’yquem – take a quick look across and up the hill – there you’ll find another ‘first growth’ premiere cru that has largely flown under the radar – which is a very good thing for us.
Listed in the original 1855 classification of Sauternes and Barsac directly behind Yquem and La Tour Blanche, Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey drastically over delivers, consistently hitting way above its weight class. Despite souring scores and rave critical reviews – year in and year out – the wines are still incredibly affordable.
The 2005 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey features abundant tension between the slight tinge of sweetness and its bracing acidity. In the glass, it continues to unfold throughout the evening – sometimes featuring coastal fruits – pineapple, mango and citrus and sometimes leaning towards almond, praline, and lemon curd. You can just sit and sip all night.

95 Points, James Suckling
This is powerful and racy with lots of class. Full body, very sweet with lots of spicy botrytis character. Intense. Drink or hold.
It’s hard to beat a great value white wine and this one is a at least a cut above the rest. Super crisp with a great mineral streak, the new release from Roc des Anges is picked by hand when the temperature is coolest and is kept cool all the way into the press. From there, the effect of the mineral soil takes over, providing great finesse and freshness in every bottle. This white blend has great backbone and a lot of juicy fruit coming through behind aromas of flowers and stone fruits.
93 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Mike Grgich’s 1973 Chateau Montelena was chosen as the best white wine in the world, sending shockwaves throughout the wine community and cementing the U.S. winemaker’s legacy amongst the world’s best. Since then, he’s oft referred to as “The King of Chardonnay”. In 2017, he earned his highest score ever from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate for his Estate Grown Chard with a delicious Chardonnay in his signature style. Opting to forego malolactic fermentation, this wine is extraordinarily crisp and vibrant with notes of Granny Smith Apple, Meyers lemon, melon and a hint of nuttiness. This is another winner from the legend.
The 2019 Clos Julien is a classic example of California coastal Chardonnay, zippy-fresh and long on the palate. It starts out with a great nose of Granny Smith apple, citrus rind and acacia. In the mouth, the fruit is pure, with plenty of extract and the finish is clean and crisp. This Pacific-influenced wine is the perfect house white, delicious by itself as an aperitif but a fantastic foil to the cuisine of summer, scallops, grilled poultry, and summer corn.
The secret to the Stolpman wine’s freshness and balance is the fact that they do not irrigate. Sure, it stresses the vines but it forces the roots to go really deep, tapping into the groundwater that is seriously affected by the limestone. The grapes are tiny, packed with flavor and brimming with the stony minerality that only the limestone can bring.
