In the hands of some of the best winemakers in the country, Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignons fetch upwards of $200/btl, and earn some of the highest scores anywhere, outpointing wines from Howell Mountain, Spring Mountain and Pritchard Hill along the way. Arrowood, Beringer, Philippe Melka and Peter Michael all make highly scored reserve wines with the requisite 3-digit price tags in the Knights Valley AVA.
But Philippe Melka and Peter Michael better watch out, because if there’s someone who can churn out full-bodied, well-structured Cabernet Sauvignon that can compete with the big boys at a fraction of the price, it’s Chad Alexander. Taking advantage of the generous 2019 North Coast vintage that handed him perfect weather and grape maturity, Chad’s Cabernet is big and elegant yet incredibly fresh. As always though, our humble friend loathes taking the credit. “I just took what the vintage gave me.”
In vintages like 2019, don’t be afraid to lay into North Coast Cab. From what I’ve tasted so far, that’s an investment that will be paying off for years to come. Chad’s Knights Valley Cabernet is a must-have, a monster that punches way above its weight class and somehow manages to stay under $30/btl for us on bottle 1.

Feudo Montoni has been one of the best producers in Italy for literally hundreds of years, most notably for their work with Nero D’Avola grape in Sicily. It’s a gorgeous expression at such a good price. The 2020 “Lagnusa” is the perfect pizza or Thanksgiving wine with juicy black fruits, grippy tannins and a wonderful, fresh and herbaceous finish. Vinous Media gave the wine 92 points and raved, calling it “remarkably fresh yet long, leaving the mouth watering while still resonating on hints of blackberry.” You’re going to love this.
Corzano e Paterno is an absolute oasis in the rolling hills of Chianti, a must visit if you go to Tuscany. The wine there is absolutely killer. The Corzanello 2006 is a gem – one from the back of the cellar that I took away many years ago. It’s a gorgeous blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon and even though it has aged gracefully for nearly two decades, it still has plenty of life. I’d drink it now or over the next 3-5 years.
Not Eligible for Futher Discount-From famed winemaker, Robert Foley comes an absolute delight of a bottle of wine. A seamless Bordeaux blend of 80% Cabernet, 17% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot that is incredibly smoothly now but should have another decade easy of prime drinking. It is the definition of a Saturday Night bottle of wine. One to cherish for a special occasion.

“Vignon’s 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape delivers even more than I hoped for based on a previous sample. Hints of garrigue, roses, cherries and raspberries appear on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied, silky and long, with an intense, almost briny finish. The assemblage is 50% Grenache, 10% each Mourvèdre and Syrah, plus smaller proportions of seven other permitted varieties, while the élevage includes foudres, demi-muids, concrete and wooden tanks, plus terracotta amphorae.”
