If you’ve heard of Castello di Bossi, you probably have winemaker and entrepreneur Marco Bacci to thank. Since taking over the winery in 1998, the man behind Renieri and several other wineries throughout Tuscany, has pumped new life into the winery – thrusting it firmly into the Tuscan spotlight.
The property – a breathtaking estate in the heart of the beloved commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga is home to some of the most consistently outstanding wines throughout the lineup.. From the Chianti Classico, to the Gran Selezione, to their SuperTuscan ‘Corbaia’, these represent some of Tuscany’s finest winemaking examples.
Along with superstar consultant Alberto Antonini, the winery has matched big scores with the very best in Tuscany: Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Tignanello, you name it – which is why Monica Lerner, the Wine Advocate’s Chief Editor in Staff declared, “Castello di Bossi is a flagship producer from the Castelnuovo Berardenga sub zone in the southern part of the appellation.“
The 2019 vintage in Tuscany has been largely heralded, including by Italy’s major wine publication, The Brunello Consorzio which gave the vintage 5 stars, ranking it up there with 2010, 2015 and ’16. Vinous Media called out Chianti especially, writing “What impresses me most about the 2019s is their exceptional balance. The wines soar with aromatic intensity and show fine tannins with terrific depth, all with medium-bodied structure.”
Castello di Bossi’s 2019 Chianti Classico represents a particularly high note in a great year. Both James Suckling and the Wine Enthusiast awarded the wine 92-point scores, with the latter lobbing on a ‘Editors’ Choice’ designate and calling out the wine for its “savory, elegantly structured palate”. There really is so much to love about this wine.

90-92 Pts, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 91 Pts (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast – 91 Pts, Decanter
The wines get consistent high praise but 2018 is truly something special. 90-92 from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. 91 points and an Editor’s Choice designation from Wine Enthusiast. 91 more from Decanter who provides “There is so much to enjoy in the smaller appellations this year. Drinking Window 2022 – 2031” and another 90 point score from James Suckling. This is a home run value – especially for the price.
The 50 hectare estate of Maurice Robert is the jewel of this beautiful growing region, located east of Bordeaux. Robert is first and foremost a viticulturist, tending his vines like gardens. The Bordeaux Rouge 2016, a barrel-fermented, vibrant blend Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with juicy cassis fruit and just the right touch of savory spice. It is a perfect choice for roasted poultry, grilled burgers or steaks or any Alpine cheese.
92 Points, Vinous – 91 Points, Wine Spectator
Feudo Montoni has been one of the best producers in Italy for literally hundreds of years, most notably for their work with Nero D’Avola grape in Sicily. It’s a gorgeous expression at such a good price. The 2020 “Lagnusa” is the perfect pizza or Thanksgiving wine with juicy black fruits, grippy tannins and a wonderful, fresh and herbaceous finish. Vinous Media gave the wine 92 points and raved, calling it “remarkably fresh yet long, leaving the mouth watering while still resonating on hints of blackberry.” You’re going to love this.
95 Points (Gold Medal), 2022 Decanter Wine Awards
The expert reviews on this incredible new release from Herve Fabre are insane. 90 points and a ‘Best Buy’ designate from Wine Enthusiast, 90 more from Suckling. Ditto from Vinous who called this “young, firm, with well-worked tannins and good structure”. But in a crowded see of nearly 20,000 wines at the Decanter Wine Awards in 2022 – this stole the show. The only 95-point, Gold medal Cabernet that you can get for under $20/bottle, its second straight year in the most rarified air.
