Burgundy collectors are finally getting wise to some of the best wines for the money in the whole region. Those wines are being made at Ann Colgin’s Camille Giroud estate. I know that collector’s have started to notice, because routinely people taste their wines at the restaurant & immediately ask me if they can buy a case. The best part is when I tell them the price! Most of the time these are fine burgundy drinkers that are used to paying 2 & 3 times that!
Not sure if I had anything to do with Ann buying the domain (I certainly haven’t received a commission check) but I do always get a healthy allocation.
The 2019 vintage is bound to go down as one of the best in a generation – some are saying since 1865 but I have no clue how you can really make that claim. What I do know is that these 60 bottles of 2019 Gevrey Chambertin Les Crais are the only bottles to make it to NJ or NY. (Sorry Jean Georges) If he wants some, he can buy it from NW but he better act quickly because I don’t think they will make it through the day.

95 Points (Gold Medal), 2022 Decanter Wine Awards
The expert reviews on this incredible new release from Herve Fabre are insane. 90 points and a ‘Best Buy’ designate from Wine Enthusiast, 90 more from Suckling. Ditto from Vinous who called this “young, firm, with well-worked tannins and good structure”. But in a crowded see of nearly 20,000 wines at the Decanter Wine Awards in 2022 – this stole the show. The only 95-point, Gold medal Cabernet that you can get for under $20/bottle, its second straight year in the most rarified air.
92 Points, James Suckling
Since the late 1990’s Penner-Ash has been viewed as one of Oregon’s top wineries making gorgeous wines in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. In the 2021 vintage considered to be one of Oregon’s all-time great years, the 2021 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir that Lynn crafted is gorgeous, a silky tightly woven number that mixes red and black fruits with some sage and baking spices and a savory finish. It’s got some nice weight to it and structure which suggests it’ll age well for the next 10-15 years though it’s already drinking beautifully in its youth.
#24 Wine of the Year (2022), Wine Spectator
92 Points, Wine Spectator – 91 Points, James Suckling
“This supple red shows a core of cherry and plum fruit allied to olive, juniper and tobacco notes. Delivers well-integrated tannins and acidic structure, lingering nicely on the finish.”
93 Points, James Suckling (Top 100 Wines of Italy)
If you’re looking for arguably the best expression of Rufina each year, you can’t do any better than Selvapiana. Located right in the heart of Chianti Rufina in Tuscany, the producer has long been considered one of the very best. Wine Spectator declared a few years back, “Selvapiana would give stiff competition to first-class red wines from just about anywhere else in the world. It also shows that Chianti Classico does not have a monopoly on the quality of Chianti as a whole.”
