Perhaps no producer has shaken Tuscany to its core quite like Bibi Graetz. If you remember our recent Bibi Graetz Testamatta offers, Bibi has begun to consistently out point the SuperTuscan Big Guns at a fraction of the price.
Only Solaia – north of $400 managed to out class it in James Suckling’s list of the Highest Rated 2016 SuperTuscans. But alas – with enormous scores follows scarcity – and our annual allotment of 26 six-packs sold out in just 4 days.
While the Testamatta is Bibi’s take on pure 100% Sangiovese – it is only technically a SuperTuscan since Brunello requires a small percentage of other grape varietals and Bibi has refused.
However, his purest attempt at SuperTuscan perfection is the Grilli – a blend of 60% Cabernet and 20% of both Merlot and Syrah all sourced from the heart of Chianti. Lucky for us – this one never made it onto the Suckling’s tasting table – otherwise today’s price would be something quite different.
Bibi bucks convention again by utilizing steel vats to preserve the fruit-forward and overt freshness of the wine. Notes of blackberry preserves and dark plum dominate. Don’t miss out, BIG RED fans. This one is a winner.
The Bibi Graetz bargains are bound to end soon. With him ramping up land purchasing and leasing less, prices will inevitably be on the rise. That and you know, the mountains of press from some of the world’s stingiest critics, who all can’t get enough of Bibi Graetz’s work of art in a bottle.

The 50 hectare estate of Maurice Robert is the jewel of this beautiful growing region, located east of Bordeaux. Robert is first and foremost a viticulturist, tending his vines like gardens. The Bordeaux Rouge 2016, a barrel-fermented, vibrant blend Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with juicy cassis fruit and just the right touch of savory spice. It is a perfect choice for roasted poultry, grilled burgers or steaks or any Alpine cheese.
Winemaker Kian Tavakoli (Opus One, Clos du Val) continues to excel even while others struggle. In 2017, he still managed to deliver a beautiful and opulent Napa Valley Cabernet that’s both dark and juicy. The wine hails from both Coombsville and Rutherford, giving it distinct characteristics and a lot of drive. Deep ruby to the rim with excellent concentration, notes of Bing cherries, raspberry pie and hints of vanilla. On the palate, big wonderfully jammy fruit with young but impressive tannins and great length. The finish leaves notes of black cherry, and baked blueberry pie. Fantastic Napa value.

Feudo Montoni has been one of the best producers in Italy for literally hundreds of years, most notably for their work with Nero D’Avola grape in Sicily. It’s a gorgeous expression at such a good price. The 2020 “Lagnusa” is the perfect pizza or Thanksgiving wine with juicy black fruits, grippy tannins and a wonderful, fresh and herbaceous finish. Vinous Media gave the wine 92 points and raved, calling it “remarkably fresh yet long, leaving the mouth watering while still resonating on hints of blackberry.” You’re going to love this.

Since the late 1990’s Penner-Ash has been viewed as one of Oregon’s top wineries making gorgeous wines in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. In the 2021 vintage considered to be one of Oregon’s all-time great years, the 2021 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir that Lynn crafted is gorgeous, a silky tightly woven number that mixes red and black fruits with some sage and baking spices and a savory finish. It’s got some nice weight to it and structure which suggests it’ll age well for the next 10-15 years though it’s already drinking beautifully in its youth.
