Beringer is one of the most iconic names in American winemaking. They have a family history and tradition of excellence that no one else can trace as far back, the winery being established in the late 1870’s with a state of the art, revolutionary facility and its own wine cave (the 2nd in the U.S. to have one after Schramsberg).
While they have certainly turned themselves into a household name with their Cabernets, the Beringer family is far from a one trick pony. They also make knockout Oak Knoll Chardonnay – and the past decade with Ed Sbragia and Laurie Hook at the helm, those Chardonnays are the best they’ve ever been and the critic’s reviews reflect that.
Their Luminus Chardonnay is a ringer and surprisingly one of the best wines Beringer makes, period. Take the 2020 Luminus Chardonnay that we’re offering up today – the wine is fantastic and even outpointed the more expensive Private Reserve by a decent margin.

95 Points, James Suckling
Dried apple and peach with some flowers. Cooked apple, too. Full-bodied with a solid core of fruit and a compact, focused structure. Tight at the end. Shows intensity. One for the cellar. Drink or hold.

Sonoma Coast is well-known as a cool-climate region, perfect for growing Chardonnay. That’s why it’s such a big deal for Route Stock to transition over for the first time from Carnernos over to here. The newly released 2022 beams freshness and comes packed with a delightful energy in its youth. It has a pale straw color with lime hues. The aromas are of honeysuckle, orange blossom and creme brulee with layers of vanilla and a hint of toffee. The palate is lively yet soft with flavors of lemon cream pie and merange.
92 Points (Best Buy), Wine Enthusiast – 90 Points, James Suckling
The winery could never expected their Tuscan Vermentino would become as integral as it has – even 25 years later, it’s still a key piece of the puzzle for Campo Maccione. It’s an unassuming wine with great viscosity and bright, savory flavors that way overdelivers for the price. James Suckling agreed, as did Wine Enthusiast. Suckling gave it a 90 and deemed it “an interesting take on Tuscan Vermentino.” Wine Enthusiast took it up a few notches, attaching a coveted ‘Best Buy’ designate to the wine along with a 92-point review for the wine “with a sophisticated restraint.”
Etienne Daulny is the latest in a very long line of Daulnys to farm Sauvignon Blanc near the tiny hamlet of Verdigny in the appellation of Sancerre. He is currently in charge of farming over twenty small parcels including some incredibly well respected fifty-year-old vines. This is a classic Sancerre, aromatically dynamic, with intense fruit, distinct minerality and blazing acidity. It’s the white wine we drink most often at home. Beautiful structure and length to this with a youthful vibrancy that shines throughout.
Just in time, we got back Vincent Ricard’s all-time great white wine bargain. This is a crisp, clean and flat out delicious Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The protege to the Silex-style of Dagueneau – who over the last 15 years has produced flawless and beloved white wines that at last count were on the wine lists of over 36 Michelin-starred restaurants. This is a great house white and one that can surely hold its own with just about everything on the table.
