Benoni is one of those great, fly-under-the-radar producers who I was introduced to out West and managed to secure a small allocation each vintage. Now we’re competing with Michelin-starred restaurants on both coast to secure what we need!
Most of the Chardonnay fruit used here comes from select vineyards on the cooler side of the Russian River Valley, in Green Valley. If you were wondering how Chardonnay could get up to $200/bottle, consider the world-class neighbors who are making Chard here: DuMOL, Kosta Browne, Paul Hobbs and Patz and Hall to name a few. Same fruit, markedly different price!
The brand new 2025 vintage had exactly the right conditions in Russian River Valley to make a special Chardonnay. It was a cool and even growing season with remarkable clarity and balance. Picture perfect for crafting Chardonnay with energy, poise, and a finely etched mineral core. No rain that interfered with harvest, nothing. Just pure, tight clusters of gorgeous, concentrated fruit.

The 2018 vintage was superb in San Luis Obispo one of California’ emerging sources for world-class Chardonnay. The Benoni vineyards produce tiny berries, packed with flavor, their thick skins allowing for aromatic complexity and length generally only found in wine twice the price.
A decade ago, on a trip out west, I discovered Benoni, whose few hundred cases each year are snapped up by the top restaurants from Seattle to Santa Barbara (and plenty in NYC). They are now a staple of our portfolio and are among the most anticipated releases of the year.
Customers have raved about their incredibly modestly priced single-vineyard Pinot offerings, but now they’ve turned their attention to the other Burgundian grape: Chardonnay. And in typical Burgundian style, they found vineyards on the extremes of the Russian River Valley.
Much of the fruit comes from select vineyards on the cooler side of the Russian River, in the Green Valley, which also provide fruit for a veritable who’s who of world-class Chardonnay: DuMOL, Kosta Browne, Paul Hobbes, Patz and Hall, just to name a few.
