Basil Hayden offered a limited release of a few different Bourbons last year. One was the ‘Subtle Smoke’ that Bourbon Buyers Club members scooped up on a matter of hours. This next one I got a hold of is called ‘Toast’ a play on the Bourbons composition, using charred, treated barrels to store their Bourbon that was made with the secret ingredient of U.S. grown brown rice.
Whisky Advocate said of the new Basil Hayden, “This whiskey features not just a new mashbill, but a new look for Basil Hayden as well. Toast marks the debut of a design-forward packaging update that elevates Basil Hayden’s signature look.”
This one features rich notes of maple syrup, cocoa, and charred wood. It has notes of a sweet molasses bread, dried fruit, caramel and creamy butterscotch flavors coming through on a mid-palate which has more depth and range of flavor coming from the brown rice composition. This gives it a a richer more savory profile, with deep and intricate layers. I’m a fan.
Our price today is a special one. The average price for this is about $75/btl going all the way up to $100/pop. But we’re going out at the lowest price legally allowed in New Jersey – and it’s a lot lower than those prices!

Back in the day, Widow Jane used to be a staple at Nicholas Wines. But as its popular has gone crazy, it’s been tougher and tougher to get my hands on any. This is a hyper small batch bourbon that was aged for a minimum of thirteen years, non-chill filtered and proofed with Widow Jane’s signature limestone mineral water from the Rosendale Mines in New York. It’s a doozy of a bottle at 93 Proof and has notes of vanilla, nutmeg, graham cracker and sweet tobacco.
I once again found myself with one of the more and limited bottlings from the good people at Michter’s It comes in a round 111 Proof and is a monster from one of the best distilleries out there. This bottling is usually between 107 and 112 Proof but isn’t made every year (only in the good years). It’s oozing with seductive aromas of Cinnamon, rye spice, chocolate and freshly baked gingerbread. Cinnamon, dark chocolate, a hint of Cayenne pepper mixed with charred sugar and oak explode out of the bottle and greet you head on. I wish I had more than six of these beauties to pass out. Such is life.
Bulleit isn’t usually one to come out with too many new or limited releases, but the ‘Frontier’ Limited Release bucks that trend. This American Single Malt was made with 100% malted barley, aged in new American spiced oak casks, and bottled at 43% alcohol. It hits with notes of freshly baked pumpernickel bread, candied orange, dried fruits, and maple syrup. She’s a beauty – just wish I had more to sell!
This is definitely one of the most unique private barrels of bourbon you’re gonna find anywhere and it comes from our friends at in Kirby at Wyoming Whiskey. It’s been two years since we’ve had this baby! They make their own whiskey in-house instead of getting it shipped to them and finishing it. In doing so, they use winter wheat to churn out a medium length whiskey with notes of honey, burnt sugar, cinnamon and caramel on the finish. It’s sensational – but I only have 120 bottles from this barrel to offer up.
