When it comes to Brion Wise’s brilliant collection of American wines, the new Napa Valley Trios cuvee of Cabernet Sauvignon is guaranteed to make you smile ear to ear. The Trios is drawn from prized vineyards in Rutherford, Yountsville and Coombsville that each feature porous, gravelly soil. This forces the roots to dig deep into the poor soil, drawing mineral groundwater for fresh, vibrant grapes.
The vineyards’ position on the valley floor guarantees excellent sun exposure providing for superb concentration. The resulting wine is deep and concentrated, with flavors of strawberry, black cherry, licorice and toasty oak. The tannins are fine and the finish is mineral and seems to just go on and on.
2017 is juicy and fresh but production was tiny. The minuscule allocation has already sold out throughout the country, even with its $100+ price tag with the exception of the 120 bottles I had already locked into at a very, very special price (kind of thank you – but that’s a story for another day). $110 at the winery – 55% off here today at just $50 per bottle.

On the palate, deeper nuances of anise, leather, savory herbs, and a touch of iron perfectly complement the juicy fruit. The finish is long and stony with fine tannins. Great at the dinner table now, decant in youth for 15-30 minutes.

Great with lamb, steak, burgers or grilled vegetables.
91 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Always the one with the most personality of the bunch, this is what Wine Enthusiast had to say about the 2021 release: “This extremely ripe and bold style of Pinot Noir will please those seeking such lushness. Dark in the glass, it begins with black cherry, toasty caramel and cola milk shake aromas.” The cool, coastal days and abundance of sunshine lines up perfectly for a wine that has a good natural acidic backbone, with bold fruit-forward flavors. In an easy 2021 vintage, Joe Wagner had a field day with this single-vineyard beauty.
This is Joe Wagner and Quilt’s inaugural Red blend called Threadcount. It is a total knockout at the price point for this style of wine. It’s a big voluptuous wine and very fruit forward. The nose is straight up dark chocolate dipped raspberries and it tastes of fresh-baked blueberry pie, spice, and a touch of toffee. It’s the kind of quality blend that you’ve come to expect from the family behind Caymus.
94 Points, Tasting Panel
This is a really exciting new release in the collection of single-vineyards from the Wagner Family, and arguably the most interesting one of the bunch. This is the only Pinot Noir in the Caymus collection that has the advantage of being from a natural Pinot Noir haven in the Russian River Valley. Dairyman Vineyard’s proximity to the pacific ocean, with its morning fog and afternoon coastal breezes allows for an even and elongated growing season, with super concentrated and expressive grape clusters that help make this Dijon clone Pinot Noir one that you need.
#3 Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2021
96 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 95 Points, Wine Spectator
We are one of the very few folks who have Wine Spectator’s #3 Wine of the Year. This is definitely not one to miss. The 2016 vintage showcases this prized vineyard in all its glory; notes of wild black fruit, thyme, mint, eucalyptus, and bay are lifted and enjoyed with the polished tannin and mouthwatering freshness of this wine. Regarded as one of the best vintages in the last few decades, the 2016 Martha’s Vineyard has been aged to perfection for immediate enjoyment at release and will continue to reward for the next 20+ years.
