Auntsfield Estate Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2025

93 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Auntsfield wines are special, especially for New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. They have this rounded richness and textural complexity that reminds you more of white Burgundy or Bordeaux Blanc than anything that’s coming out of NZ. It’s concentrated, detailed and layered in a way that genuinely surprises people when they first take a sip.

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate gave this 2025 release a rave 93-point review, perfectly describing it as “Herbaceous, crunchy, concentrated and chalky with layers of saline acidity and gently tropical fruit alongside. A richness that it carries without weight with attractive spice and minerality to close.” Then they closed their review emphatically telling readyers: “This is very good, as are all the wines at Auntsfield Estate.” A Wine Advocate endorsement like that is as good as it gets!

“The 2025 Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is herbaceous, crunchy, concentrated and chalky, with layers of saline acidity and gently tropical fruit alongside. This has a richness that it carries without weight and shows an attractive spice and minerality to close. This is very good, as are all the wines at Auntsfield estate.”

This is the site of Marlborough’s first colonial vineyard, established in the 1800s by David Herd. But Auntsfield Estate isn’t just making wine on historic ground – they’re also making some of the most distinctive, complex Sauvignon Blanc in all of New Zealand.

What makes Auntsfield so special is a mix of the perfect location and their own philosophy. While most Marlborough vineyards sit on the valley floor with alluvial soils, Auntsfield’s hillside vineyards in the Southern Valleys feature Greywacke rock overlaid with fine Loess clay. That clay gives the wine a rounded weightiness and succulent richness you rarely find in New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc – more like white Burgundy or Bordeaux Blanc. They don’t believe it simple, they believe in special. These wines are worth seeking out across the board.
