I would say in a given year I taste 4-6 dozen Rosés that people bring me to potentially offer up to the Nicholas Wines faithful. I cherry pick the top ones – the best values, the best deals, etc.
This is one of those that stole the show at a tasting – a full-throttle, energetic Rosé made from 100% Pinot Grigio in Venice. It demonstrates all of the amazing qualities of the Collio region in Friuli Venezia-Giulia: it has superb weight and texture, and is mineral-edged, savory, tangy, and lively. And, it’s a perfect match for anything at the table or off the grill.
This one is from just to the west of Gorizia, and is conveniently protected from both the cold northern winds and the characteristic “bora” wind of Trieste. There’s ideal gravelly/sandy soils and ample sunlight – perfectly balanced by super cool nights, which leads to extended hang times and juicy fruit that is roaring to go.

“Deep in color and vinous in its red fruit, this is a spicy and compelling rosé. There’s pristine strawberry flavor at its core, surrounded by accents of red grapefruit, blood orange and fennel. The Bernard Reverdy Sancerre Rose 2022 is gorgeous. A beautiful pale pink to the brim, this baby is fresh and super aromatic with a complex nose of citrus, wild strawberries and white flowers. With air, higher tones emerge, with a great mingling of ripe fruit, and stony minerality. Medium-bodied, fresh and focused on the palate, with concise limestone-drive acidity, this is an elegant, lively, and energetic Sancerre Rose that mirrors the warm vintage but also the old vines rooting deep in stony soils. This is so much better than your run-of-the mill Rose – it’s an ageworthy, food-friendly Rose

This is a Nicholas Faithful favorite. Even though it’s technically a non-vintage it was last disgorged in the 2020 vintage. La Cravantine, is a sparkling rosé of 100% Cabernet Franc, bone-dry, super fresh and with bubbles so tiny and fine, it puts most “real” Champagne to shame. Appealing strawberry and mineral scents are encased in a firm structure with a dry and spicy quality in the palate. This wine is incredibly versatile – perfect with just about any fish, fried food, or do like I do and enjoy it on it’s own.
