Atanasio Origenes “Fibras y Fuego” Tequila Blanco

Category

Maestro Tequilero René Carranza’s obsession with his tiny 8-liter stainless steel pot still represents tequila production at its most intimate scale. He loads cooked agave into this miniature pot, ferments it with fibers still intact, then distills it twice over blue flames. We’re talking micro-batch production, with minimal yields. We’re talking dozens, not even hundreds! This is truly as tiny as craft distilling gets.

That dense, richly complex micro-distillation is then blended with René’s beloved Atanasio Orígenes high-proof tequila, creating something that’s practically climbing out of the glass with bold aromatics of roasted apple, sweet potato, pomegranate, toasted cinnamon, and pineapple cake. The palate delivers silky texture with notes of cooked parsnip, honeycomb, lemon pudding and white pepper – familiar yet distinctly different from anything you’ve tasted.

Maestro Tequilero René Carranza, the brilliant mind behind Atanasio Tequila, is gaining a reputation not just for his excellent main line but for his incredible curiosity and experimental spirit. Armed with a tiny 8-liter stainless steel pot still, René loves to tinker, playing with unusual ingredients like crushed pears or other fruits, letting them open-top ferment with wild yeasts before distilling small, unique batches.

This same passion for exploration is vividly captured in “Fibras y Fuego” (Fibers & Fire), a special project where a small amount of cooked agave is mashed, packed into his little still complete with its fibers, fermented, and then micro-distilled twice over a direct gas flame.

This highly dense and complex tequila, made on an almost impossibly small scale, is then skillfully blended with a portion of René’s renowned Atanasio Orígenes high-proof tequila. The result is a truly distinctive spirit that feels both familiar to fans of Atanasio and yet entirely new.

Originally, “Fibras y Fuego” was intended to be an exclusive, distillery-only release for those few lucky visitors who made the journey. However, much to the delight of enthusiasts, it has instead become Atanasio’s very first US-exclusive limited release, a testament to its unique character and the demand for René’s innovative craftsmanship.
