Aruma Malbec Mendoza 2021

$16.00

This wine is a product of the very special partnership between Baron de Rothschild and Nicolas Catena Zapata, godfather of Argentinian wines and the man wine writer Jancis Robinson credits for, “Putting Argentina on the Map”. Two men of absolutely enormous stature in the industry.

With a pretty much bottomless budget, the two found the perfect spot in the Southwest of Mendoza in Valle de Uco where the truest expression of Malbec and Cabernet could be crafted. Seemingly every year since they started making Aruma Malbec, the result has been an outstanding wine and a one that sees big-time scores even with its super modest price tag.

The newly released 2021 from the Rothschild family and Lafitte Rothschild and the grandfather of Malbec, Nicolas Catena is a knock-out. It’s a big boy at a great price. Unsurprisingly, Suckling gushed about it in his 93-point review, calling the wine “Very pure” and “quite attractive.” It’s amazing how juicy and packed with dense, chewy red fruit it is while still maintaining balance and finesse. It’s a classy bottle of wine.

Two of the greatest wine pioneers from two different hemispheres join forces to make a delicious, Bordeaux style Malbec. This is truly the definition of a “No-Brainer”.

93 Points, James Suckling
Perfumed yet focused nose with lots of violets and deep but fresh blueberries. Very pure. A mineral undertone makes it quite attractive. It’s dense, medium-to full-bodied and juicy on the palate, packed with silky tannins that are taut and calculated. Youthful and very primary now. Free of oak. Drink from 2023.
