The village of Dogliani is, for many devotees, the mother church of Dolcetto: The soil and climate of Dogliani seem perfectly matched to the Dolcetto grape, and as a result, growers in the region plant Dolcetto in their best vineyard sites. Add to great terroir the devotion of a passionate grower-producer like Anna Maria Abbona and the result is extraordinary wine. “Sorí Dij But” is one of Anna Maria’s single-vineyard Dolcetti – the impressively steep vineyard looks pretty much like the “coat of grapes” emblem on the label. The 2018 is ripe and long on the palate, a great vintage for Anna Maria.
When it comes to pizza wine, few are better than Anna Maria’s dark fruited, juicy Dolcetto from the hills of Dogliani. The 2018 is just flat out delicious. Abbona’s Dolcetto vines were planted by her grandfather in the 1930’s. Rooted in calcareous soil on crazy, steep hillsides, Dogliani is where Dolcetto is at its best.
Anna Maria’s 2018 Dolcetto di Dogliani Sori di But is inky black to to its core, with a wild nose of dark cherry, licorice and baking spices. The fruit is juicy, big on the palate but fresh all the way through the finish. A classic Italian built for pizza, pasta, grilled meat or just by itself. Great house red.

This is a really exciting new release in the collection of single-vineyards from the Wagner Family, and arguably the most interesting one of the bunch. This is the only Pinot Noir in the Caymus collection that has the advantage of being from a natural Pinot Noir haven in the Russian River Valley. Dairyman Vineyard’s proximity to the pacific ocean, with its morning fog and afternoon coastal breezes allows for an even and elongated growing season, with super concentrated and expressive grape clusters that help make this Dijon clone Pinot Noir one that you need.
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.

Since the late 1990’s Penner-Ash has been viewed as one of Oregon’s top wineries making gorgeous wines in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. In the 2021 vintage considered to be one of Oregon’s all-time great years, the 2021 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir that Lynn crafted is gorgeous, a silky tightly woven number that mixes red and black fruits with some sage and baking spices and a savory finish. It’s got some nice weight to it and structure which suggests it’ll age well for the next 10-15 years though it’s already drinking beautifully in its youth.
Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
