Ancient Peaks Renegade Red 2020

Armed with one of the brightest rising stars in winemaking, Ancient Peaks has been setting the pace for what has become the budding wine region in Paso Robles. Winemaker Amanda Wittsrom-Higgins was 2020’s cover for Wine Enthusiast’s annual list of “40 Under 40 of America’s Top Tastemakers” and was included as one of “the trailblazers who are redefining the industry as we know it.”

The quiet revolution she’s been leading has been drawing attention. The Wine Advocate recently called Amanda’s wines, “keenly priced, high-quality wines that deserve to be better known.” That might be true, but if too many catch on, there’s no way we’ll continue to be able to grab these massively intense wines for less than twenty bucks. Especially not when these bottles come equipped with 93-point scores every year.

But once again, that’s what we have! The newly released Ancient Peaks Renegade Red 2020 continues what is becoming an annual tradition of Amanda crafting a Paso Robles Red that sees a score of at least a 93. It’s a gorgeous Prop Red that the Tasting Panel raved about in their 93-point review, writing “This elegant example of a Paso Syrah also shows the top-notch experience of mating the grape with these expressive Bordeaux varietals.”
