Amancaya is a monster. BIG RED lovers are going to eat this up. Lord knows all the expert reviewers did. 3 different folks gave this wine at least 91 points with James Suckling coming in as high as 94 points and choosing this beauty for his Top 100 values of 2021.
Master of Wine, Tim Atkin echoed the enthusiasm with a rave 92-point review and the designation of ‘Top Wines of Argentina’ (he gave Caro’s flagship wine a 98 and named it one of his top 4 wines of the year…from anywhere).
The Aruma Malbec is a 100% Malbec production. This one is a more intricate blend, taking that same Malbec, but also blending in 30% Cabernet Sauvignon that was aged in both Lafite Rothschild barrels and cement vats. With the Malbec harvested at 4000+ feet and the Cabernet pulled from 3100 above sea level, the fruit is pristine, high-toned and incredibly energetic. Then once it’s put into the hands of this iconic winemaking team– it’s all bets off for any competitors.

94 Points, James Suckling
This shows blackberry, tobacco, coffee and iodine aromas and flavors. Medium to full body. Polished, yet happily dense with creamy tannins and a long, savory finish. So drinkable now, but will improve with age. 70% malbec 30% cabernet sauvignon. Drink or hold.
92 Points, Tim Atkin, MW
Deep ruby color. Intense aromas of white flowers, red cherries and figs. Juicy and complex with hints of cloves and other spices. This well-balanced wine is an elegant expression of the blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.
91 Pts, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 2018 Amancaya, a blend of 70% Malbec and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, aims to combine the fruit and freshness of Malbec with the power and complexity of Cabernet Sauvignon. It was partly matured in oak barrels and keeps a fruit-driven and ripe profile with a soft palate with very fine tannins.”

96 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate – 96 Points, Decanter
96 Points from Robert Parker himself along with extremely high praise. “The wine hits all cylinders in 2010.” This is one the great Margaux wines of the vintage. Probably the greatest Lascombes made to date…” Add in 10 years of aging with perfect provenance and you have our top Bordeaux offer of the year. A third of the price of Palmer and a mere tenth of Château Margaux – $139 per bottle & free shipping on 2. You’ll want two.
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
91 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Always the one with the most personality of the bunch, this is what Wine Enthusiast had to say about the 2021 release: “This extremely ripe and bold style of Pinot Noir will please those seeking such lushness. Dark in the glass, it begins with black cherry, toasty caramel and cola milk shake aromas.” The cool, coastal days and abundance of sunshine lines up perfectly for a wine that has a good natural acidic backbone, with bold fruit-forward flavors. In an easy 2021 vintage, Joe Wagner had a field day with this single-vineyard beauty.
This is Joe Wagner and Quilt’s inaugural Red blend called Threadcount. It is a total knockout at the price point for this style of wine. It’s a big voluptuous wine and very fruit forward. The nose is straight up dark chocolate dipped raspberries and it tastes of fresh-baked blueberry pie, spice, and a touch of toffee. It’s the kind of quality blend that you’ve come to expect from the family behind Caymus.
