My go-to for entertaining – I just hand everyone a glass upon arrival. The newest batch of 2018 Barmes features a beautiful nose of the green apple and Anjou pear with tinges of honey, white nuts and white flowers. The fruit is near perfect, richly concentrated with a creamy texture. The finish is endless, with the tiniest of bubbles, with a zippy acidity that makes it perfect with scallops, grilled swordfish.
91 Points, James Suckling
The Bisol “Jeio” Prosecco NV is a delicious sparkler that comes from the Veneto region of northeast Italy. A brilliant straw yellow color, the first sip is an intense and fresh nose of citrus fruits and saline sensations. If you love fruit forward sparklers… this one is for you.
For the first time ever in the U.S., Pink bubbles from our favorite, Bisol. The 2019 Bisol “Jeio” Prosecco Rose is a tasty, refreshing sparkler that comes from the Veneto region of northeast Italy. This is the first year the family has made a pink Prosecco, but I’m lobbying for this every year. Inviting aromas of flowers and wild strawberries, with a complex mouthfeel that sings with citrus fruits and creaminess from the tiny crisp bubbles. This is a ‘must have’ this holiday season.
What separates this Valpolicella from its peers is the grapes used were grown for this wine specifically. This isn’t Amarone seconds, it’s a precisely crafted and seductive rendition of the Corvina grape that will appeal to Red Burgundy lovers. Highly versatile and elegant, Ca La Bionda’s Valpolicella mesmerizes with red and blackberries, anise and Asian spices with serious depth.
If you haven’t yet had any of the wines from Castello di Volpaia, now is the perfect time to change that. This one, their most affordable in the crowd, is their bid for Nicholas the ultimate Super Tuscan Bargain of the Year. A predominantly Sangiovese blend that also features Cabernet, the “Citto” is made in 100% stainless steal vats to properly showcase the intense and vibrant youthful fruit. The perfect compliment to pizza, this is one to drink now while it’s fresh, silky and oh so juicy.

This Cabernet dominant blend, cut off of mediterranean quartz soils, provides a wonderful dark fruited, chocolatey mix that Wine Spectator’s former Italian Editor-in-Chief, James Suckling called “serious richness”. It’s a crazy food friendly wine, but I wouldn’t waste my time pairing this with a salad, this has pizza wine written all over it. At today’s price, it shouldn’t need convincing, just some space cleared in the wine fridge.
Obviously, I can’t tell you all the details of the vineyard source but I can let you in on a few of the details. Crafted using fruit from 1000-1500 ft in elevation, Chad’s 2019 is cool climate Pinot at its best– especially given the price tag. While similar wines (very similar wines) will fetch a $45 price tag, you can snag it today just less than half off that price on bottle one. There’s no surprise this is the #1 wine of the year in 2020.
Year in, year out Château Turcaud produces one of the best white wine values in the world. It’s long been found on Michelin-starred wine lists in Paris and we’ve had it at the restaurant since Day 1. If you’ve ever tried this stunning, classic Bordeaux of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Sauvignon Gris and Muscadlle, then you know why. The 2019 has just arrived, and it’s as fresh and as delicious as you could want. Enjoy.
The 2019 Clos Julien is a classic example of California coastal Chardonnay, zippy-fresh and long on the palate. It starts out with a great nose of Granny Smith apple, citrus rind and acacia. In the mouth, the fruit is pure, with plenty of extract and the finish is clean and crisp. This Pacific-influenced wine is the perfect house white, delicious by itself as an aperitif but a fantastic foil to the cuisine of summer, scallops, grilled poultry, and summer corn.
The best white wine of the summer has arrived. Bolognani has been a staple on our list since the day we opened the door. It’s everything you want in Pinot Grigio. It’s floral with a pretty nose, a juicy middle and the zippy finish. It’s an incredibly expressive, refreshing wine that has all the goods– it’s aromatic, crisp and clean.
Bourgogne Rouge from the fancy estates of Vosne, Gevrey and Chambolle start at $45 and quickly escalates from there. To find real value, you have to get off the rue nationale. But no estate in Burgundy quite delivers the bang per buck of Lydia Cornu’s fantastic Hautes Côtes de Beaune. Lydia makes old-school red Burgundy; aromatic Pinot Noir, with crunchy, juicy fruit and a sharp vibrancy that makes it just sing with food.
This is a Nicholas Faithful favorite. La Cravantine, is a sparkling rosé of 100% Cabernet Franc, bone-dry, super fresh and with bubbles so tiny and fine, it puts most “real” Champagne’s to shame. Appealing strawberry and mineral scents are encased in a firm structure with a dry and spicy quality in the palate. This wine is incredibly versatile – perfect with just about any fish, fried food, or do like I do and enjoy it on it’s own.
