Here each block is tasted meticulously to ensure optimal ripeness prior to picking, and the fruit is given the stainless steel treatment with minimal oak use to bring out the full expression. The result is quintessential Santa Barbara Pinot. Lush and balanced with a little bit of spice, this one is a crowd pleasure, no doubt about it.

It seems like every year since inception that the Wagner Family’s Belle Glos Clark and Telephone Pinot Noir wows critics and earns some lavish praise in the process. It’s no surprise either. With access to some of the best Pinot Noir fruit in Napa, this cuvee is always good and in the 2022 vintage, that trend continues in a big, big way. It’s as juicy and concentrated as you could want it though with lots of grace. Medium to full-bodied with great balance, this is one flashy Pinot Noir.
90 Points (Best Buy), Wine Enthusiast
For years, we’ve sold oceans of Tony Soter’s Etude Lyric Pinot Noir for fifteen bucks a bottle or so. Other than CHAD, it’s pretty much the only ‘value’ domestic Pinot Noir I’ve ever cared for. Why do customers love it so much? Well, first off- it’s a fantastic price. People love that. But more importantly – it’s a well-made, truly gulpable Pinot – full of easy, breezy bright cherry fruits and truly suitable as a cocktail wine.
If you’re looking for rock-solid domestic Syrah, Ojai is the first place I always tell people to look. Their goal with the Santa Barbara County Syrah is to capture the pure expression of the region’s cool-climate vineyards. This wine does that in spades. The 2022 vintage was warm, so there’s a deep and ample ripeness to this bottling, yet the coastal vineyards held onto their earthy and savory Syrah qualities. The varietal fragrance is striking and pungent. The wine is terrific.
Who doesn’t love Big Bottles?!? This is one I’ve never gotten before and didn’t even know existed before the cult winery reached out with “something special for our support” last week. You have to go all the back to the tough 2014 vintage to find a ‘Southing’ Pinot Noir from Sea Smoke that got less than a 95-point score. Not only is Sea Smoke’s winemaking team outstanding, but their single-vineyards represent some of the best land anywhere in the Russian River Valley. The ‘Southing’ Pinot Noir is the marriage of elegance and complexity utilizing the Sea Smoke Estate Vineyard along the Santa Ynez River.
Today’s Sauvignon Blanc, the 2023 Estate bottling from Stolpman, is absolutely bristling with energy. It’s relentless as soon as you twist open the top. It’s as fresh as could be with inviting aromas of peach, green apple, and citrus. There’s beautiful acid present in the first sip but plenty of fruit to greet you as well. There’s a minerality from crisp lemon-lime notes with some citrus and salinity that infiltrates the palate. It’s a gorgeous, medium bodied wine that absolutely puts to shame most of the past year in domestic Sauvignon Blanc I’ve had in the past year. This is 100% Ballard Canyon Estate fruit, and the price is just silly.
