This wine is textbook Sancerre Blanc from the village of Bué, the highest in elevation in Sancerre with the most calcareous soil. It is a chiseled, tightly wound and incredibly complex Sauvignon Blanc, which I’d argue is one of the best in the world. It’s a perfect match for summer cuisine!
Etienne Daulny is the latest in a very long line of Daulnys to farm Sauvignon Blanc near the tiny hamlet of Verdigny in the appellation of Sancerre. This is a classic Sancerre, aromatically dynamic, with intense fruit, distinct minerality and blazing acidity. It’s the white wine we drink most often at home.
The 2018 has a green-tinged straw color with intense citrus and anise on the nose, plus a strong chalky tone. It is absolutely electric on the palate, with great vibrancy to the flavors of lime, pink grapefruit and blood orange. The finish is long and stony. This is a terrific new Sancerre you don’t want to miss!
