One of Sancerre’s greatest wines. An incredible effort in arguably the greatest Sancerre vintage since 1947, Dominique’s single parcel ‘La Jouline’ is considered the Grand Cru vineyard of Bue. It’s crafted from 60-year old vines and given an extra year in bottle, adding incredible layers and complexity in the process. Tiny yields followed by partial barrel fermentation creates a wine with complex aromatics, explosive flavors, and a mineral-laced finish that makes it both incredible at the table with rich cuisine or a great candidate for short term aging.
The Bernard Reverdy Sancerre Rose 2022 is gorgeous. A beautiful pale pink to the brim, this baby is fresh and super aromatic with a complex nose of citrus, wild strawberries and white flowers. With air, higher tones emerge, with a great mingling of ripe fruit, and stony minerality. Medium-bodied, fresh and focused on the palate, with concise limestone-drive acidity, this is an elegant, lively, and energetic Sancerre Rose that mirrors the warm vintage but also the old vines rooting deep in stony soils. This is so much better than your run-of-the mill Rose – it’s an ageworthy, food-friendly Rose
2022 was an absolutely perfect vintage in this respect and unfortunately, I think it will be one of the last, if not THE last. As winegrower Jean-Marc Brocard reported to Decanter: “When we taste the wines, we feel that the balance between acidity and ripeness is very good. It’s a classic style of Chablis. In the end, even after such a heat during summertime, we stay in a cool year reference.” He also alluded to the ageability of the vintage, saying “Let’s give them time, we must let nature do its work.”
This is a new release and it’s quite the show stopper. If you’ve never had the Abbonna Dolcetto Dogliani Sori di But, you need to. Drawn off the highest vineyard in Dogliani where Dolcetto is the king grape. This one has tremendous energy out of the bottle. Dark violet in color, with wonderful aromas of black cherry, tea leaves and sage, fermented in steel vats to allow these ‘grand cru’ ancient plantings to shine through unencumbered. So aromatic and food friendly. A must try! Get it before these great vineyards are gone forever!
